‘I Hope Dessers Stays With Us’ —Genk Coach

Genk Coach, Wouter Vrancken, says he hopes Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers stays with the club.

Following a lack of playing time at Genk, Dessers was loaned out to Feyenoord last season and was impressive for the Dutch giants.

The former Heracles striker was instrumental to Feyenoord’s match to the final of the maiden Europa Conference League after netting 10 goals.

He took part in Genk’s 2-1 win against Utrecht in Wednesday’s pre-season friendly, featuring for 30 minutes.

His compatriot Paul Onuachu did not play due to an abductor muscle issue.

And speaking after the game Vrancken praised Dessers for his mentality during the game.

“He came in here the right way. Cyriel is Cyriel,” Vrancken was quoted by HLN Sport.

“He confirms the positive stories I have heard about him.

“In terms of mentality, you will have no problem with him.

“Obviously I hope he stays. I haven’t specifically talked to him about the future yet, but the intention is to do so today or tomorrow.”

And on the overall performance of his team, he said:”We played a good match. And what I especially like to see is that the boys are really busy with what you do in training.

“They take steps every time. The reactions today after losing the ball was really good today. We deserved the win.”
