The Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) will organise a novelty football match on 1 August 2026 as part of activities marking the second memorial of its former chairman, the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.
According to the Chairman of the ANSFA Media Committee, Ralph Chidozie George, the match will take place at the FC Ifeanyi Ubah Stadium on Ozubulu Road, Nnewi.
Ifeanyi Ubah’s Enduring Legacy in Anambra Football
The late Senator Ifeanyi ‘Ebubechukwu Uzo’ Ubah served as Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association from 2016 to 2020.

His emergence as ANSFA chairman triggered significant positive developments in football across the state. One of his landmark initiatives was the celebrated ‘One Family, One Footballer’ project, which was launched in both Nigeria and Russia during the 2018 FIFA World Cup, with FIFA President Gianni Infantino in attendance.
Major Milestones During His Football Administration
In August 2016, the late Senator Ubah made history by signing a landmark partnership agreement with English Premier League club West Ham United. He described the deal as one that would bring a major transformation to his club, Nigerian football and African football as a whole.

He also masterminded FC Ifeanyi Ubah’s triumph in the 2016 President Federation Cup, as the club defeated Nasarawa United 5-4 to lift the trophy at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos. The victory earned the club a place in the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup.

The businessman and football administrator passed away on 27 July 2024.
As part of activities commemorating the second anniversary of his death, the Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi-led ANSFA board has concluded arrangements to stage the novelty football match in memory of the late Capital Oil and Gas chairman.
