Int’l Friendly: Eagles Player Ratings vs Cameroon – Iwobi, Awaziem Shine; Musa, Onuachu Ineffective

The Super Eagles were held to a goalless draw by Cameroon in Tuesday’s international friendly in Austria.

It is the second tie of the double-header encounter between both African powerhouses.

Here, Completesports.com rates the performance of each Super Eagles players that featured against the 2021 AFCON hosts.

Maduka Okoye (6)

Just like in the first game he didn’t really had much to do except on two occasions in the second half when he had to come to his team’s rescue with timely intervention.

Shehu Abdullahi  (5)

Went close to helping the Eagles open scoring as he ran on to a through ball on the right only to see his cutback cross cleared away. Aside that didn’t really do much helping the attack.

Chidozie Awaziem  (7)

In the absence of the regular centre-backs did well enough to marshall the backline by denying the Cameroonians clear-cut opportunities.

Valentine Ozornwafor  (6)

Made his first Super Eagles start following the absence of the regular central defenders and impressed. Came to the Eagles’ rescue with a timely block to halt a counter by the Cameroonians.

Jamilu Collins  (5)

Like his opposite full-back Shehu Abdullahi, Jamilu Collins did not offer much in the attacking third. He was later replaced by Abraham Marcus.

Moses Simon  (5)

Tried to make something happen from the left wing but struggled to make much impact.

Wilfred Ndidi  (6)

Did well enough to make sure the Eagles did not lose control of the midfield.

Alex Iwobi  (7)

Saved the Eagles’ blushes by clearing a goal bound effort off the line. Threaded a ball through for Paul Onuachu but the Genk forward failed to direct his shot on target. Set up Iheanacho late in the game but the Leicester man’s strike was parried away by the Cameroonian keeper for a corner.

Ahmed Musa  (4)

Didn’t do anything of note and was replaced by Anayo Iwuala.

Kelechi Iheanacho  (6)

Had the Eagles’ best chance of the game 13 minutes from time and a fine through pass from Iwobi but his effort was stopped.

Paul Onuachu  (5)

He only really came close to scoring when he was played through by Iwobi only to shoot off target. Aside that didn’t offer much and wss replaced by Terem Moffi before the start of the second half.

(Substitutes)

Abraham Marcus (5)

Guilty of many misplaced passes despite getting into good positions.

Terem Moffi (5)

Moffi wasted a very good chance to put Nigeria ahead in the 50th minute shooting horribly wide from inside the box. From then on was anonymous.

Anayo Iwuala  (5)

Was brought on for the ineffective Musa but did not have much impact.

…all I can read here in almost every line is “ineffective Musa”… we don begin play our mate, make them shine make we see… no be lesotho and all those small nations wey no get talent up to a single state for Nigeria again o… Marketing agents of our national team captain… “how market?” in Omo9ja’s voice?

    • You should also note that more than half of the team where absent…osimhen chukwueze ekong balogun Aina zaidu kalu ebuehi aribo ajayi …..SO DON’T CELEBRATE YET BECAUSE RHOR MIGHT END UP MAKING YOU EAT YOUR WORDS AND TRUST FORUMITES THEY WILL USE YOU TO SHINE THEN

  • Chairmanfemi 3 years ago

Moffi! Moffi! Coffee! We sha don see am now. We go rest. Not even close to Super Eagle material. Cyril Desser the only played that I’ve seen has that Oshimen spark. I pray he have a good season next season so he will be re-called. For Mr. 30 goals, It’s clear for the blind to see now that Super Eagles is not for him. Like the way Owngoal put it “displacing Oshimen is still clearly a dream” to him.

I have followed moffi for quite sometime and I know he is not a super eagles material, however,I did not see what dessers played in that friendly too,he only played for about 5 mins or so.its time also to look beyoun onuachu because he has returned to factory settings.i will advice the coach to invite dessers let’s and give enough playing time, let’s assess him properly

  • Eldridge Cleaver 3 years ago

Ndi invite Moffi. Ngwa Iwuala is the best, Ndi Paul Onuachu is Rashidi Yekini. How market na???
Even England with the pot of clay they won in 1966 will demolish this Super Eagles. Lolzzzz…..

  • You’re right. Owngosl’s analysis was more incisive and on point

Valentine don shut una mouth, just like okoye watch out next season, abeg make una leave is rohr alone

  • JimmyBall 3 years ago

… I will however suggest Rohr remains in-charge and see out his contract. But in my opinion… after the Mexico game… He should proceed to Germany for atleast two weeks refresher course on tactics and substitutions… Updating his coaching skills at this point will do him and Nigeria a great deal of help. He is good but can do better and we need to begin to try other players we hardly give opportunities like Junior Ajayi of Al Ahly… I so believe Amuneke’s assessment and verdict on that guy… Can we really say that he cannot offer anything different from all our attacking midfielders/wingers/forwards currently in the team? Al Ahly is a huge team and he has maintained a roaster spot for 5years… It’s not all footballers who will be lucky to play a decent team and league in Europe… Egypt largely draw their national teamers often from the ranks in Al Ahly…

  • This Jimmyball u no dey tire or una no get shame at all? We’re u not d one shouting moffi, iwuala etc now he had played, how did he fair?rather u are still suggesting another obscure player. His eagle a testing place Abi how do u expect a coach to be inviting different players all the time just because u want to see them play? Are you normal at all? because the way u and omo9ja reason at times it seems you are mad. Haba! always comment rubbish i think is high time completesports blocked their comments from hitting front page because it is always senseless but full of hatred and racism

    • Musa Yahaya 3 years ago

You are clearly the racist here. Go learn some grammar so you dont spew garbage!

@Jimmyball is an Idoma from Benue State and its obvious he’s no racist as the player he clamored gor is Yoruba.

Moreover, he’s entitled to his opinion. Insulting him is disrespectful please

    • JimmyBall 3 years ago

If only you can comment without raving… One will take you serious. Saying I am full of racism
because like most serious folks, I see our coach as past his prime? We still need to see some other players and Mexico game is harmless. Let’s see Junior Ajayi, Nwakali, Lookman, Ejaria and later Olise. Once Torunarigha switches, likewise Tosin and Tomori we will also need to see them… It’s people like you who wanted to choke this forum with calls for Musa who is not even marketable again… for an active player in Africa elite league… We are yet to really give Junior Ajayi a chance… he is big in his own right. Iwuala, Moffi, Marcus are once for the future but they can be getting experience being summoned for friendlies every now and then… I used to say no one can rely on Iheanacho for goals… Let’s see new faces against Mexico since the top established Eagle players may want to opt out… Period!

      • JimmyBall 3 years ago

@tayo… Shame no the catch folks like you… In over 180 minutes Super Eagles no even hit crossbar… is that not alarming enough that we should try others that we have unfairly excluded for “forever” from the team? Junior Ajayi is one
of such players, likewise Nwakali and Atiemwen!

This Mexico wey we wan play so, me I dey fear ooo. Unless our full squad is used, Mexico will embarrass us. If Mexico see opportunity to score 10 goals, dey will add jara and score 11. Na so dem be. If dey are better than you, they will destroy you, humiliate you, you will almost hate the day you were born. If we can’t raise a full squad for the Mexico game, I implore the NFF to please, please, please cancel this friendly. Yes, the opportunity to see new players against quality opposition would have been lost, but at least we will avoid a comical hammering!
    Imagine a Mexico 8 Nigeria 0 scoreline!
With a full squad, we are a match for them. Heck, we can even beat them. But with what we have seen in this past 2 days, or even worse, if we face Mexico with home based players, we go hear am ooo. If we do anyhow, we go see anyhow oooo!
A word is enough for the wise! Without our very best players, me I kuku no go watch the match. Mio le wa para mi nitori football. I need my good health.
