Iwobi, Iheanacho, Ndidi In Action As Everton, Leicester Remain Winless; Liverpool Destroy Bournemouth 9-0

Alex Iwobi featured for Everton but could not inspire them to a first Premier League win this season as they settled to a 1-1 draw at Brentford on Saturday.

Iwobi saw action for 90 minutes while his Super Eagles teammate Frank Onyeka was an unused substitute for Brentford.

Everton have now failed to win any of their four league games played so far this season, drawing two and losing two.

Everton took the lead in the 24th minute as Anthony Gordon raced onto Conor Coady’s pass and shot across David Raya.

But with six minutes left to play Vitaly Janelt equalized for Brentford to deny Everton a first win this season.

Frank Lampard’s side are now in 17th position on just two points in the league table.

At Stamford Bridge, Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi played for struggling Leicester, who lost 2-1 to Chelsea despite the Blues losing Conor Gallagher to a red card.

Both Iheanacho and Ndidi were introduced in the 55th and 89th minutes.

The defeat leaves Leicester in 19th spot after losing three and drawing one of their four games played in the ongoing campaign.

In the 28th minute Gallagher was shown a second yellow for bringing down Harvey Barnes as Leicester counter.

But the two teams went into the break leveled before Chelsea broke the deadlock on 47 minutes through Raheem Sterling.

In the 63rd minute Sterling grabbed his second goal to put Chelsea 2-0 ahead but Barnes made it 2-1 on 66 minutes.

At Anfield Liverpool recovered from their loss to Manchester United as they destroyed Bournemouth 9-0.

It was Liverpool’s first league win of the season after drawing two and losing one of their opening three games.

The Reds have scored nine goals in a single top-flight game for the first time since September 1989 vs Crystal Palace (9-0).

Also today’s win was their joint-biggest in their league history (also 9-0 vs Crystal Palace in 1989 and 10-1 vs Rotherham Town in 1896).

And at the Etihad, Manchester City came from 2-0 down to beat Crystal Palace 4-2 with Erling Haaland bagging a hat-trick.

The win took City to the top in the league table on 10 points and will drop if Arsenal beat Fulham later on Saturday.

And in the other result Brighton continued their impressive start to the season with a 1-0 win against Leeds.

They currently occupy second spot on 10 points same point as City but behind due to inferior goals difference.

I really feel for Bournemouth. 9 nil! Wow!
What makes the result so bad is the tactical blunder of leaving Alexander-Arnold and Robertson scot free to roam the flanks and bomb forward at will. Even me, as armchair coach wey I be, will NEVER EVER make that mistake.
As a coach, if you’re playing this Liverpool team, before the game, you have to drum it into the ears of your wingers and full backs/wing backs that these 2 guys need to be marked out of the game. These 2 guys are the creative hub of Liverpool. Their crosses and passes create the bulk of their chances. It’s the height of naivety to play this Liverpool team and leave the 2 full backs so much freedom. Alexander-Arnold especially had so much time and space on the ball, IT WAS ABSOLUTELY CRIMINAL!
A bitter pill to swallow for Bournemouth fans. A lesson for their coaching crew as well.
