Iwobi To Undergo Another Covid-19 Test Ahead Lesotho Clash

Alex Iwobi will undergo another Covid-19 test ahead of Nigeria’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Lesotho on Tuesday, reports Completesports.com.

The winger missed Saturday’s 1-0 away win against the Squirrels of Benin Republic after testing positive for coronavirus.

The Everton star, who was earlier named in starting line-up was replaced by Galatasaray’s Henry Onyekuru.

That’s a highly commendable move by NFF, we cannot rule out a conspiracy theory with these Beninios and their antics. A confirmatory test will at least give us the clear picture.

Honestly, I thought as much too. Where did Iwobi go since when the team stepped into Benin, and then contracted COVID-19, that others didnt go…..??? A person who was negative when leaving UK for Nigeria, Negative when leaving Nigeria for Benin and then suddenly positive on matchday. I suspected a conspiracy too…since they knew Iwobi was the key playmaker in the SE.

So, probably in order to make it look real and not arouse suspicion, the Benin authorities knocked off 2 inconsequential players from Benin’s squad and then knocked off the most important player in the Nigerian squad….that’s my own conspiracy theory anyways. But a confirmatory test will clear all doubts.

don’t forget that most African Countries have been using this Covid thing to weak their opponents, even TK of Soccer Africa confirmed this fact. It’s right time caf should look into this issue especially now that World Cup qualifiers is around the Corner.

Even the coach and NFF suspect foul play

Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr is confident that Everton winger Alex Iwobi will take to the pitch when his side face Lesotho in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match on Tuesday evening.

The former Arsenal star was originally named in the starting lineup against the Republic of Benin on Saturday but was forced to withdraw from the squad altogether just before the team headed to the stadium after he seemingly tested positive for coronavirus.

The Nigeria Football Federation are having none of it and are of the opinion that the result was compromised.

Writing on social media, ESPN journalist Colin Udoh tweeted : “”Gernot Rohr has told me that although Everton’s Alex Iwobi tested positive for COVID on arrival in Benin, he believes the result is “fake”.

“A second test has been taken and result due soon. Rohr tells me he’s confident Iwobi will play on Tuesday”.

The Nigerian Federation and Super Eagles medical team have not yet made an official statement on Iwobi’s test result until they get a second medical opinion.

Iwobi had made twenty-two straight appearances for the Super Eagles before he was forced to miss yesterday’s match versus the Squirrels. (C) Allnigeriasoccer.com

  • I have been wondering the possibility of only Iwobi testing positive to Covid-19 out of the whole lot. Perhaps, there was a mix up in his test procedure or result. It is good NFF wants to revisit his case.

The player rating by Goal.com is good, the one by CSN is better……..but the best I have seen so far is from Owngoal. The person who did that review/analysis for Owngoal, actually watched the match

    U WILL SCRAPE THROUGH

  • I agree that iwobi should be retested in Nigeria so as to be certain that the test in benin was indeed done without malice.
I also support the rating of owngoal on the players perfomances. Most papers really appreciated the input of aribo, but some forumites here keep attacking him because he didn’t spend his time on the pitch dribbling all the beninous players and shooting at the keeper. He played a tactical game and I commend him for it. They all did well

  • Aribo did so well yesterday. Because of the tactical role he played in the match, if you are not in the spirit you will not see the good job he was doing…..lol. It was just like the situation of Sergio Bosquet in those days at Barcelona.
Apart from his skills, he has now added physicality to his game. He is no longer the Aribo of last year or years ago. He is now bulky and strong, because he has been lifting weights recently……He outwitted all the Beninios players that tried being physical with him in the course of the match.
I don’t know if anybody noticed the wonderful save our goalkeeper made around the 56th minute. That high ball should have been a goal because it was such a very tricky situation.
The full match not just the highlights is now on YouTube. Anybody who was not in the spirit while the match was live, can now go, download and watch it again

Iwobinho, we need you oooo. Please get well soon if you are sick. Na beg we dey beg.
I hear say the boy likes baked beans. They should give him baked bean to lem. He will recover by God’s grace.

All of you are saying trash, if the football authority go play him, I hope they don’t find their selves wanting. He has accepted his fate, isolate, you all talking talking, well. I don’t know. If he was positive he maybe positive, you all blind when your NFF all crowding the players taking pictures? The way the virus work does not say they know Iwobi is our best man.

    Ocherome Mma,
Indeed, Aribo has the potential to be a great midfielder. Sometime last year on this site, I compared him to Kevin De Bruyne. That is no small praise. But when you are praised like that, expectations rise. The Aribo I see at Rangers is a world class box to box midfielder. The Aribo of the last four Nigeria games is almost afraid of the ball. When he gets it, he’s in a big hurry to return it to sender, as if the ball is a hot potato. All the creativity and goal instinct that we see at Rangers has gone up in smoke in the Nigeria jersey.
Therein lies my intense disappointment. If he was not good, I won’t say a single word. We’ve seen a few midfielders in the NIgeria jersey in the past year, and you won’t see me writing anything about them. No offence intended. But when a guy I rate so highly like Aribo is not playing up to 10% of what he is capable of, then my frustration levels go up.
If the real Aribo comes out for us, you all will see the difference.

Are you people really serious about this conspiracy nonsense. Wouldn’t the nigerian doctor be present when the test is conducted. Wouldn’t the result be shared with him. So are you saying he would join benin republic in all this conspiracy you are all coming with. Abeg go and do much research on Covid. You don’t have to be close to anyone just to be Inflicted with the virus. We were not present in any of there activities when they arrived. He could have gotten it from the airport touched something. And it all depends on his immune system at that time. So let us stop all this flimsy excuses we are making here. Saying CAF should

Speaking of recovery, I hope Ekong has recovered from GETTING HIS STUFFING KNOCKED OUT by Onuachu. After he nodded home Nigeria’s winning goal, an overjoyed Onuachu accidentally ran into Ekong, and while everyone was celebrating wildly, our captain lay on the ground in agony. Looked like a coming together of heads between Onuachu and Ekong. OUCH.
Wish Ekong a speedy recovery. They should give him some nice afang soup. That should help him recover quickly.
