Jagielka – Silva Starting To Settle

Captain Phil Jagielka says he is pleased with the progress Marco Silva seems to be making as Everton manager. Silva joined in the summer after first being linked with Goodison Park in the autumn of 2017, an issue that appeared to spark his downfall at previous club Watford.

The Portuguese has come in for criticism for the team’s inconsistency, none more so than at the weekend as the Toffees squandered a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 away at Newcastle.

While the coach is relatively new to Everton, Jagielka is in his 12th season on Merseyside and is keen to see the club find some form, with winnable games against West Ham, Fulham, Burnley and Crystal Palace to come before the end of the season.

Although the team sitting 11th in the Premier League demonstrates they have struggled at times this season, the former England defender says the signs are there that Silva is starting to get a grip on things. “This division is so unpredictable and it is difficult to put together a consistent run of games,” Jagielka told the club’s website. “We have struggled to do that over the past couple of years.

“But the manager is settling in, he knows his squad, and hopefully we can finish the season well and build for next season. “There is a lot of potential here, a lot of good young lads and some experienced players. Hopefully the results will be less up and down, more consistent – and everybody will be happy.”
