Coach Kennedy Boboye has parted ways with reigning NPFL champions Akwa United after a run of poor results in the current Nigeria Professional Football League season.
Boboye walked away after Akwa United’s goalless draw at home against Heartland FC on match-day 12 in Uyo – their third successive draw at home in six matches.

Boboye who took over from Coach John Obuh in December 2019, led Akwa United to their first NPFL title last season but has failed to replicate that form after twelve rounds of matches this season in which his side has managed four victories, five draws and three defeats, leaving the club 8th on the log with 17 points from 12 games.
The club wishes Coach Boboye well in his future endeavors.

_Boboye: A future Super Eagles Coach?_
Kennedy Boboye was appointed Interim Assistant Coach of the Nigeria National team on 21 April 2016 shortly after the resignation of Sunday Oliseh. In February 2019, he was appointed assistant coach of Nigeria U-23 National team.
He later returned to club football.
As a veteran coach in the domestic scene, with achievements that include winning 2 league titles with Plateau United and Akwa United, many had tipped Boboye to follow in the footsteps of the Late Great Shuibu Amodu in becoming a memorable Super Eagles Head Coach.
However, his resignation last weekend from his post as Akwa United head coach has left many to wonder whether Boboye can indeed fulfil any ambitions he might have of coaching the Super Eagles.

After twelve rounds of matches this season in which his side has managed four victories, five draws and three defeats (leaving the club 8th on the log with 17 points from 12 games), Boboye’s position became untenable.
The former Super Eagles Assistant Coach threw in the towel to which the club management gladly embraced and promptly announced. The club’s lacklustre results and pitiful league position has doused the flame of romance that caressed the relationship between Boboye and his employers.
And he is not new to resignations.
In the past, Boboye has walked away from his post as manager of the following clubs: Sharks FC, Abia Warriors, Plateau United, and Remo Stars (after leading the into relegation).
So, his latest resignation from Akwa United only served to add another ring to the ever lengthening chain of unattractive resignations that have blighted the career of this promising coach.
So, will it be right to write him off as a future Super Eagles coach?
Perhaps not. At 42, age is still very much on his side. Rather than incessant resignations, Boboye needs to win very many trophies. He should spread his tentacles beyond the NPFL.
Once he wins more and achieves more domestically and in foreign lands we can the talk about a potential Super Eagles coach.
But for now, any ambitions Boboye has to coach any national team is no more than a pipe dream.
