Kenny Frustrated By Everton Collapse

Everton defender Jonjoe Kenny admits their performance in the second half was way below par after letting a two goal lead slip.

Marco Silva’s side were 2-0 up from the break at St James’ Park after goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison looked to have stunned the home crowd after Newcastle had won four in a row before.

However, a second-half collapse saw Newcastle recover to win the game 3-2 and increase the pressure on under-fire boss Marco Silva.

The Toffees now find themselves in 11th place in the Premier League having only won four of their last 12 games. And, Kenny, who only started the game due to illness striking Seamus Coleman just before kick off, could not hide his frustration with the result.

“It is massively disappointing,” Kenny told evertontv. “At 2-0 up in the first half I thought we were brilliant, we made the game easy for ourselves.

“But in the second half we did not do what we had been doing before half-time. “We still had chances, if we’d scored the first goal [after half-time] and made it 3-0, the game would have been done.

“But we didn’t, we kept them in the game and 2-0 is always a difficult scoreline. They got the first goal and the crowd behind them. “We did not defend well [after Newcastle’s first goal] and were punished for that.”
