Khawaja Not Worried By Warner Return

Australia’s Usman Khawaja is not worried about the impending return to international cricket of David Warner. Khawaja has been on top form since earning a recall to Australia’s One Day International team earlier this year, registering six fifty-plus scores from his last 10 innings, including two centuries.

The 32-year-old has formed an impressive opening partnership with captain Aaron Finch during that time, particularly during the ongoing series with Pakistan, as the duo have put on stands of 63 and 209 to help Australia move into a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.

Both players seem to be hitting form at the right with the World Cup being just around the corner, but with Warner and Steve Smith’s international bans set to expire later this month, there are no guarantees the duo will retain their places.

Warner’s impending return could be a particular concern for Khawaja, but the left-hander is not looking too far ahead, with all his focus being on the series with Pakistan. “It’s (World Cup) a long way away. For Me, it’s about the next three games (Warner’s return) is not something I have thought about at all.

I am just enjoying playing one-day cricket,” Khawaja was quoted as saying by the ICC. Khawaja also believes his impressive partnership with Finch is no coincidence, as he feels their respective styles complement each other well. He added: “Finchy (hits) a lot straighter, hits the ball hard, and I sort of work it (around). I think we just complement each other.”
