Klopp Distances Reds From Tarkowski

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has rubbished links to Burnley’s James Tarkowski by insisting he has no plans to sign a defender.

The Reds find themselves in the midst of a centre-back injury crisis after Dejan Lovren, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all picked up problems, leading to speculation the Premier League leaders could look to dive into the January transfer market.

Rumours have suggested that England international Tarkowski was Klopp’s No.1 target, reports claiming the Merseysiders wanted to take him on loan for the rest of the season.

However, the Clarets have no interest in letting arguably their best defender leave and have slapped a £50million price tag on the former Brentford man.

Whether the rumours of a move for Tarkowski were true or not, Klopp has seemingly distanced Liverpool from a raid on Turf Moor by insisting he has no plans to sign a defender this month.

“The only country that asks a question like this is England,” Klopp said, when asked if he would sign a new defender.

“Everything is sorted with buying players. We have four centre-halves. Three, maybe, two-and-a-half are injured so we’ll have to try and come through in the moment.

“We need them back but you cannot buy a fifth centre-half and say, ‘So you play two weeks and after that the others come in’.”
