Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has accepted a one-month ban from tennis after testing positive for a metabolite of cocaine during the Mallorca Open in June 2026.
The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) announced that Kyrgios’s default three-month suspension was reduced to just one month because he proved the drug use occurred socially outside of competition and agreed to enter an approved treatment program.

Because his provisional suspension was backdated to August 4, 2026, his ban officially ended on September 3, 2026, making him eligible to return to competitive tennis immediately.
Addressing the situation on Instagram, Kyrgios issued a public apology and discussed the immense physical and mental toll of recent injuries, noting he is coming to terms with the twilight of his career and stepping away from social media for 28 days to focus on his recovery.
“I’m sorry to my fans, my family, my sponsors and everyone close to me. Above all, I’m sorry to the kids who follow me. I know the example this sets, and I’m deeply disappointed in myself.

“I’m not going to make excuses, but I do want to give some context about where I’ve been. The last couple of years of injuries have taken a huge toll on me, both physically and mentally. My body hasn’t been able to do what my mind expects it to do, and coming to terms with being near the end of my career has been harder than I ever imagined.”
He will also forfeit his €6,570 prize money and ranking points from the Mallorca event.
Kyrgios made his last appearance in the men’s doubles competition at Wimbledon this year. He and partner Alexander Bublik lost to Marcelo Arévalo and Mate Pavić in the first round.
