La Finalissima: Messi Lands Another Trophy With Argentina After 3-0 Win Vs Italy

Lionel Messi clinched his second international trophy with Argentina, after leading them to a convincing 3-0 win against Italy in the CONMEBOL-UEFA Cup of Champions known as La Finalissima inside Wembley stadium on Wednesday.

Messi bagged two assists as goals from Lautaro Martinez, Angel Di Maria and substitute Paulo Dybala, secured the win.

Martinez broke the deadlock in the 28th minute after slotting into an empty net off a low cross from Messi.

In one minute of first half added time, Di Maria added the second goal with a clever chip after he was played through on goal by Martinez.

And in the 94th minute Dybala made it 3-0 after finding the bottom corner thanks to a Messi lay-off.

Argentina have now gone 32 games unbeaten and they are only five games away from reaching Italy’s record streak.

The CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions previously known officially as the European/South American Nations Cup is an official super cup football match organised by UEFA and CONMEBOL and contested by the winners of the UEFA European Championship and the Copa América.

Organised as a quadrennial one-off match, it is a national team equivalent to the former Intercontinental Cup featuring the club champions of Europe and South America.

The competition was held twice in 1985and 1993 before being discontinued.

The competition was relaunched starting in 2022, after the signing of a memorandum of understanding between CONMEBOL and UEFA.
