LaLiga: Chukwueze Welcomes Azeez As Villarreal, Granada Clash

Fast rising Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze will look to start the new LaLiga season on a promising note when Villarreal host Ramon Azeez’s Granada today (Saturday) at the Estadio de la Ceramica, reports Completesports.com.

Chukwueze who has been handed a new jersey number (11) broke into Villarreal’s first team last season and has not looked back since, churning out series of impressive performances for the Yellow Submarines.

The 20-year-old scored five goals in 26 league appearances for the club last term.

Chukwueze was linked with a high profile summer move to some of the top European sides, but the young winger has opted to stay with Villarreal to continue his development.

Granada are back in the LaLiga after spending time in the Segunda B with Azeez, a former Nigeria U-17 and U-20 international playing a key role in their promotion.

The 26-year-old linked up with Granada in January from Segunda B side, FC Lugo and made 13 league appearances for the side.

Azeez earlier featured in the LaLiga as Almeria player

  • This is my personal opinion, I think Coach Rohr should invite Ramon Azeez to the try and give him a chance as well. That guy is a good midfielder. In my humble opinion, can u imagine him playing in front of Etegbo and Ndidi but behind the strikers? That would be trouble for the opposing team.

  • The attacking midfield position of the Super Eagles is a department in which at least 2 vacancies exist at the moment: one on the pitch and the other on the bench.

Super Eagles supporters will look to see whether Aribo can fill the on-field vacancy which should free Iwobi to occupy a space in his much favoured position from the flanks.

A strong showing from Ramon Azeez this season in La Liga could see him stake a claim to the other vacant (bench) attacking midfield position (assuming Aribo delivers in the colours of the Super Eagles as expected).

Is Ramon Azeez an offensive or defensive midfielder?i know Keshi featured him in the offensive position in the Rio world cup which didn’t bring out the best in his obvious good qualities.
Meanwhile,at youth international levels he featured prominently as a defensive midfielder and was phenomenal in that role.I really don’t know what position he plays for Granada i hope its the offensive position because like you rightly mentioned we are short in the offensive midfield department,i hope Aribo is a solution.
Apparently we need more attacking midfielders playing in the elite leagues and the likes of Etebo has to consider playing in the premiership where he can improve and also improve our midfield else his position is there to be taken by the likes of Azeez and maestro Zubby.

  • Thanks GT.

Although he is regarded as a centre midfielder, I think he drives the ball up the pitch with the verve of an attacking midfielder (or perhaps I am wrong)

Either way, strong showings in the Spanish La Liga might yet swing the pendulum of national team invitation his way to fight for a place somewhere in the Super Eagles midfield (be it from the bench)

Thanks Deo.From all indications Azeez has quality, what i like most is the energy he’s got.He burst forward with so much pace and power, lets hope he’s a regular and hope for more performances like this in the Spanish top flight.

  • Whenever they mentioned that one Nigeria players played for a certain club they will start saying he should be invited to SE but the question they should be asking themself is that, can all these players be invited and play at the same time? yesterday it was igbejeme, lukman, sheyi ojo etc..today is Rahmon tomorrow they will start mentioning another players once they hear he scored or played for his club. Nawa for my country people

    • @Tayo that is Naija for u,if they hear say one guy called @Tayo scored yesterday they will ask for Ur inclusion to super eagles immediately,i begin to suggest that we will start to go to competition’s with 50 players, anyway is Fifa ask us to do so we must still complain lol

    • Tayo, established Super Eagles players should know that there are others out there breathing down their necks.

Hopefully, this awareness should help keep them on their toes.

Any sustained slip up and they could find their position usurped by other capable legs.

I don’t know about you but I am really thankful that we have this many players playing top flight football, ready to fill any void created by an underperforming Super Eagle.

Like Ubah so eloquently said,if you choose to quit your day job to take up football and start banging in goals for Real Madrid, I tell you, I will be the first to clamour for your invitation to the Super Eagles.

      Happy weekend bro.

@ Tayo every Nigerian playing so well for their clubs are potential super eagles. It’s normal for supporters of super eagles to clamour for players they think are good enough for invites, though opinion differs because the player you support may differ from one I support so it’s now left for the gaffer to choose who he thinks he wants in his team mind you even the coaches are not always spot on with their invites.
