Laliga: Omeruo, Awaziem Team Up Against Azeez As Leganes Host Granada

There will be nothing friendly at stake when the duo of Leganes defenders, Kenneth Omeruo and Chidozie Awaziem trade tackles with fellow compatriot, Ramon Azeez’s Granada in a La Liga game on Monday night at the Estadio Butarque.

Omeruo made a return to action last Friday when Leganes salvaged a 1-1 draw with Real Mallorca in a La Liga encounter at the Visit Mallorca Estadi after missing the 2-0 midweek defeat to Barcelona.

The centre-half started the match and saw full action but while Awaziem was also on from the start, the central defender made way for Javier Aviles in the 81st minute.

Azeez on the other hand came on to take the place of Fede Vico on 61 minutes when Granada were handed a 1-0 defeat by Samuel Chukwueze’s Villarreal also last Friday.

And now, Azeez will look forward to playing a key role as Granada aim to bounce back against Omeruo and Awaziem’s Leganes who themselves are battling against relegation.

So far in the 2019/20 season, Awaziem has made 19 starts in 21 La Liga games in the colours of the Cucumber Growers with four clean-sheets to show for his effort.

Omeruo on his own part has so far started 20 of his 2 league games in the colours of the relegation battlers with one goal and five yellow cards in his record.

Azeez has netted two times in 19 La Liga appearances for Granada this season with one of those goals coming when his club beat title holders, Barcelona 2-0 last year.

A time will come when the African Brazil called Nigeria will only comprise of players doing well in top teams. This is the only way we can go and win a world cup because by then the mentality will be a win win. Talent is good but winning mentality coming from a big side helps alot as this was what deprived us of going all out against Italy in USA 94.

Atlanta 96 reward was as a result of players who have now been exposed to top notch teams in Europe. My point here is Kenneth and co should fight their way to top teams for the good of our football instead of battling defeats week in and out with bottom sides. The people playing for Barca and Liverpool don’t have two heads!
