Lam Hits Back Over Fifita Claims

Wigan coach Adrian Lam has hit back at Wakefield’s David Fifita, claiming his comments about Wigan’s tackling last Friday were ridiculous. The Trinity prop had claimed on social media that he did not want his career ruining by cheap-shot tackles after Wigan’s Joe Shorrcks dived into his standing leg when he was held up during play.

That tackle and a few others were slammed by Trinity coach Chris Chester as “naughty” after the game and he said referee Robert Hicks should have taken action. Lam has hit back saying there was nothing in it and they will not be changing the way they tackle.

“It was a little unfair I thought, looking back at the video,” he told Wigan Today. “There was not much to it at all. If that’s what he thinks, fair enough. “I’m not sure where that’s come from – it’s not something I coach and it’s ridiculous in that sense. We’ll move on – nothing will change the way we play.”

Wigan’s Sam Powell has been handed a two-game ban for a tackle on Reece Lyne in the same game. Lyne is expected to miss out over Easter with a knee injury which Chester said was “completely avoidable”. Shorrocks and Wakefield’s Pauli Pauli avoided bans after officials gave them charges of dangerous contact and striking respectively.
