“My decision to leave Atletico Madrid was the biggest mistake of my career. I would trade all the titles I’ve won for just one with Atletico – just one. Atletico is a club I love. I was very happy there,” he told Mario Suarez.
Morata enjoyed a highly prolific and productive final spell at Atlético Madrid (2022–2024), where he recorded 36 goals in 93 appearances.
He was especially lethal during the first half of the campaign, hitting 18 goals in just 27 games across La Liga and the Champions League.
He became a focal point in Diego Simeone’s attack, developing a lethal partnership with Antoine Griezmann and famously netting a memorable brace against Real Madrid.

He elevated his game in crucial fixtures, including a standout performance against rivals Real Madrid in September 2023, where he scored two crucial headers in a 3-1 victory.
Simeone heavily relied on his aerial ability, vertical runs, and hold-up play to stretch opposing defenses and create space for supporting forwards.
