LigaSFL Review: Egba City, Raineri The Biggest Winners As Alimosho Shock Champions Saints

The leadership of the exciting ALATSociaLiga changed hands for the first time this season following some interesting results on Matchday 8.

LigaSFL Review

It was an incredible success for the likes of Egba City, Raineri Ghosts, the biggest winners of the day and the Herd, Alimosho, who revived their fading campaign with a shocking win over champions Saints.

Egba City Are The New Leaders

They were made to earn their win and wages but like good teams always do, the City Hawks found a way to survive the scare from Blak Haus to seal all three points.

Blak Haus are yet to win a game this season and against Egba City, it was clear to see why. The Egypt 80 Band boys were a hard nut to crack despite going 1-0 down in typical fashion as Egba took an early lead.

However, that goal looked like the tonic the Blak side needed as they became a different side thereafter and were handed a chance to equalize when the ref pointed to the spot.

Ajayi Ben, however, missed the resultant spot-kick before making amends later with a beautiful chip to draw Haus level with what was only their second goal of the season.

Egba restored their lead later with another goal and held on for the win that saw them leapfrog 96 Champions as the new leaders.

Raineri Ghosts In Cloud 9 After Double Win

Matchday 8 was highly productive for Raineri Ghosts after impressive wins for both the Men and Women’s team.

In the opening game of the day, the men’s team moved into the top four for the first time this season after an effective and efficient 0-2 win over All Black

That result was hardly a surprise for anyone as the Ghosts were clear favourites even before kickoff – they had never lost to the Born Blacks in their previous four meetings.

Saturday’s victory made it five wins in five for Coach Ayere’s men, moving them third on the table with 13 points.

Two hours later, Coach Ayere, this time, led the Women’s team Raineri Ladies to an incredible win over leaders and unbeaten Saints Ladies.

Two goals from the experienced Ojay inspired the Raineri Ladies to a 0-2 win over the hitherto Invincible Saints Ladies, a sweet revenge for Ayere and his Ladies after they lost 3-1 in the first leg.

That result ensured Raineri closed the gap between them and Saints as both sit joint top on 8 points with the Saints still top thanks to their superior goals scored.

Alimosho Shock Defending Champions Saints To Revive Campaign

There was relief in the Herd camp after an important win over defending champions Saints FC.

With their 2021 season fading before their eyes, the Herd needed a win against the in-form champions who had won three of their last three games without conceding a goal.

Olayinka shocked the LigaSFL world when he revealed via his social media account that he had left the Red Aces and days later, he had signed for God’s Own Team.

So, with Atlantic set to take on Dannaz, the whole drama around Adiro heightened the hype and expectations around what was indeed the biggest game of the day.

But to the utter disappointment of everyone at the Cappa Ground, the match failed to live up to billing as both clubs played out a rather dull goalless draw to share the spoils.

While the result favoured the Cedars a bit, for Atlantic, they are in danger of missing the playoffs except Adiro can weave his magic ASAP.

96 Champions and Citizens decided to do the best impression of the BIG GAME between Atlantic and Dannaz with their version of a goalless draw.

The Citizens have built quite a reputation for cooking draw soups, and once again live up to it against the Red Aces, who seemed to miss the guidance of their former boss, Adiro, known for his attacking style.

The result, a point a piece for the two, proved to have some dire consequences for both teams, 96C dropped to second for the first time this season, while the Proud Citizen exited the top four as they now sit fifth.
