Lille Dismiss Campos Reports

Lille president and owner Gerard Lopez says there is no chance sporting director Luis Campos will be joining Chelsea in the same role.

Campos has acquired a big reputation in European football over the past few years, particularly from his spell at Monaco after helping secure the signings of Thomas Lemar, Bernardo Silva, and Benjamin Mendy, before all three were sold on for massive profits.

This season at Lille he has helped sign players such as Jonathan Ikone and Jose Fonte, who have played key roles in getting Lille up to second in the Ligue 1 table, 17 points behind runaway leaders PSG, as they try and finish as best of the rest.

Reports in the French media suggested that Chelsea would try and poach Campos away from Lille due to his excellent record in transfer dealings.

However, Lopez was unequivocal in his thoughts about the potential departure of Campos. “No, no, no,” he told RMC Radio. “Luis Campos will be at Lille next season.” Chelsea have been banned from signing players for the next two transfer windows due to breaches of conduct surrounding the signing of youngsters.

However, they have appealed the decision and, if successful, may look to further pursue Campos to reshape their recruitment team.
