Liverpool are now reported to have dropped all interest in Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt and will target other areas of the squad. Reports have linked the Reds with a move for the 19-year-old Dutch ace, who was seen as the perfect partner for Virgil van Dijk in the heart of the defence.

Some even claimed that talks had taken place with Ajax and Liverpool would pip some of Europe’s top clubs to the player’s signature. However, it has now been said that boss Jurgen Klopp has dropped his interest as he will prioritise other areas in his squad and will need to keep his powder dry for now.
A new left-back and versatile forward are said to be the order of the day, while a new goalkeeper could also be needed if Simon Mignolet moves on over the summer. It would appear that Klopp is happy to keep faith with Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip as back up in central defence and leave one of Barcelona, Manchester City or United to sign De Ligt.
