Premier League giants Liverpool are interested in signing Manuel Akanji from Borussia Dortmund.
According to the Daily Mail, Jurgen Klopp’s side will move for the defender if they fail to lure away Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig.
Given that Liverpool face Leipzig in the Champions League last-16, the Bundesliga side are unlikely to want to sell anyone to the Reds.
There is also the consideration of his reported release clause, which would come into effect next summer.
Akanji is a new name and is highly-rated, but it remains entirely plausible that Liverpool go for the remainder of the season without defensive reinforcements given they are top of the Premier League even without Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.
