Man United 1-1 Leicester City: ‘He’s My Man Of The Match’ –Taggart Heaps Praises On Iheanacho

Former Leicester City defender, Gerry Taggart has heaped praises on Super Eagles forward, Kelechi Iheanacho for his brilliant display against Man United at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Taggart, who rated the Nigerian international as his Man of the Match in the team’s 1-1 draw against the Red Devils, stated that he’s impressed with the all round performance of the former Man City star.

In a chat with LCFC Radio’s Matchday Live, Taggart praised Iheanacho’s bravery and decision to head the ball from a difficult position.

“I’ve got to mention Wesley Fofana,I thought he was excellent, Johnny Evans as well.

“For Kieran Dewsbury-Hall,it was another great experience for him.

“Harvey Barnes at times showed glimpses, and James Maddison as well at times was sublime,” Taggart said to LCFC Radio’s Matchday Live.

“At the end of the day,if you’re going to get your team on the score sheet, you’ve got to make brave decisions, and that was a brave header at the back post by Kelechi Iheanacho.

“That’s why he gets my man of the match.”

Where was THIS ‘Nacho in Kumasi?

    • Ask your coach. Coach with that functional tactics. I believe we have the players. But the coach had useless tactics against Ghana. Our strikers are scoring against big clubs with good defence and midfield. Ihenacho, Osimhen, Dennis all have scored against man United, Chelsea, Real Madrid but they cannot score against Ghana. You need to ask Eguavoen. What were the plans to create goals. Our wingers only dance with the balls. Did you see how the goal scored by ihenacho was created. That’s the work of a coach. The movement from midfield to attack.

Your players are good but the problem is Ghana. The likes of Rashid Yekini, Obafemi Martins, Odewingi etc became ordinary players when they met Ghana. Don’t blame Nacho.

        • Rotexy 2 years ago

Ghana’s can never plays it different when it’s Nigeria. I have never seen a competitive match in which Ghana plays a free flowing football with Nigeria. The tactic is always to Unsettle Nigeria’s rythm; make it a dog fight; dirty and ugly and nick a goal and pack the bus. This is why Ghana is tactically superior because they know Nigeria always come with a sense of we have better players and play the more eye appealing football. To beat Ghana in a competitive tournament, Nigeria must be be blessed with highly strong, skillfull and creative midfield which presently largely lacking. Until Nigeria realizes this, Ghana will always beat Nigeria.

          • Olubaba1980 2 years ago

As someone said, it’s a matter of tactics. Eguavoen lacked the needed tactics to handle Ghana. He seemed very good with talking to the media but unsure of his tactics
He still tries to play 1994 football whose style and pattern has been studied and known by opposing teams.

Gernot Rhor definitely had better tactics than Eguavoen.
As boring as his latter matches became, he was grinding out desired results especially in away matches.
Nigeria simply got what she deserved. Glorifying sentiments and mediocrity

That “NACHO” was left in England while coming to Nigeria. All the stakeholders of our football is blamed for including unpatriotic players.

    • He scored the only goal against Egypt, he scored twice in a match in qualifier. Sometimes its d fault of the coach, not getting d right tactic for the players to flourish.

All the stakeholders are responsible for our failure to qualify From Mr Amaju to the coaching staffs including the players, some of our players are not doing enough especially in the middle. It is a shame that Oghenekaro Etebo can not whether the storm in the absence of Ndidi as the most senior player in that department. Infact, Innocent Bonnke performs better as a debutant than Etebo. For Onyeka,he needs to get himself a first team shirt at Brentford before he can be thinking of call to Super Eagles. His flashes of skills that beats two Ghanian defenders is enough.

  • He was in Kumasi. He could not score because your coach will either play him as a midfielder or as a main striker instead of the original supportive striker that he is.
Even in this match, he could not score in first half. there was change in tactics as he combined up front with James Madison and it yielded 2 goals with Iheanacho scoring and assisting; if not for VAR that cancelled the other goal.
    H. Barnes was doing well but he was not combining with Nacho. I believe the coach saw this, advised Madison to go up with Nacho and it paid off.

    • Father 2 years ago

He could not score because Amartey took care of him and Osimhen.

with Oga Rohr, Enochor is always deadly.

  • A nation that hates the Igbos for no reason, why would God let them qualify?

Eguavon failed in the AFCON, instead of handing over to Ndubuisi Egbo and Amuneke, they brought in Amuneke to assist Eguavon the failure.

#Coach Ndubuisi Egbo for the SE!

    • What’s this one saying? Our nations sport in all level has been dominated by the igbos from time, keep that tribal sentiment to yourself pls.

And where is Egbo coaching now?

Nigerians with their sentimental clamour for people with past glories not minding the current status of the coach, if he was that good enough he would’ve gotten another club in Albania or other East Europe by now

    • Has oga Right gotten another job yet?

      • Dr Banks 2 years ago

Oga Rohr has only been sacked 3 months ago and is still getting paid his salary so no qualms yet.

Egbo on the other hand has bee sacked since 2020 and jobless ever since, moreover Club football coaching job is quite different from National coaching jobs

Guys use your head this time rather than being sentimental again, remember where your sentiments landed you currently, learn from your mistakes please

That chance Moses Simon missed wasn’t just the best chance in Kumasi but the best chance of both legs. If that chance fell to Osimhen, he would’ve buried it with ease. But it fell to Moses Simon, a headless-chicken-footballer!

    • Headless chicken footballer indeed. The player you adjudged to be the best player in AFCON even throwing jibe at Rohr for using wrongly. Karma is truly a bitch and that serves that Mosses Simon better too maybe Egu didn’t tell him to express himself again lol

  • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

If PINICK wouldn’t RESIGN let him tender an APOLOGY to ROAH and talk him into coming back

    • No way, No to Rohr! He is grossly ineptitude and deficient in tactics. The AFCON Q. & world cup encounters are testaments.

We need credible and tactically astute indigenous Coaches blended with foreign mercheneris (fitness trainers, psyche, etc). Egbo, Emelano, Manu, Finidi, Oliseh, Enyeama/Rufai/Ikeme,… Should be evaluated for the job and the best should emerge.

Honestly, Amunike disappointed me, he could not instruct the boys to thoroughly blend the Midfield with the wings and attack (smooth connectivity).

I told Egu severally that the Ghana match would be played and won in the Midfield (see the Partey goal?)…

Egu defenders were very slow and killing the vibe of the game but the coach could not shout at them to release the ball quickly. Our Midfield was hugely dysfunctional.

You invited Amoo why didn’t you play him when u noticed Aribo was not delivering his goods well????

Eguavoen should not near our national team again, you gladly took Rohr’s job as if you would deliver 100%. Most fans were expecting better options and not Eguavoen but Picnic mago mago and greed no free am.

And many of the so called senior players should step aside for fresh legs.

      Shalom!!!

  • Edoman 2 years ago

I totally agreed with you on calling Oga Rohr coming to take his job back. He is still on our payroll as we speak. Beg him to come work for his pay.
when Rohr finally goes, NFF don’t have to pay him the 2 million dollars which was already paid last year. Egbo is okay, but he seemed to have moved so much about. Rolling stone gather no mores. He is always on the go, for Christ’s sake. Wonder what he is currently doing with his life. Constant mobility must have taken its toll on him judging the way he is begging for a job at National level that he is least qualify for. Make him an Assistant to Rohr if we really care. But it is not obligatory at this point, though.

    • Buhari will have to continue in 2023 before Rohr will come back as SE Coach again.

Shameless Nigerians, are you guys not tired old men doing young men’s job?

If we are looking for old men, then let’s bring back Westerhorf and Bonfere Jo, at least they won something for us, played good football too.

      Come on guys!!!!
      Seriously?
      Rohr again?

    • Omo9ja 2 years ago

Calling Oga Rohr back to come and do what if I may ask you Edoman?

What are the criterias to hire a coach?

What was his pedigree and achievements in that role? What was Oga Rohr’s past achievements before Nigeria and after Nigeria?

If Oga Rohr was that good, why did NFF wanted the gaffer to take a refresher course?

NFF hired the gaffer and he failed to produce a world class goalie, freekick specialists, two best players in each position over the six years but wait a minute, how long did that take Olishe to have Ikeme? Let me stop here because my questions may be too much for you and the rest of Oga Rohr fans.

However, love Oga Rohr but he wasn’t good enough to be Super Eagles coach period.

Nevertheless, Eguavoen wasn’t the best local coach NFF could have went for but NFF, wanted to rubbish our local coaches and they played smart and I warned our own but they ignored my advice.

For me, we don’t need a foreign coach. What we need is an environment, an organization that will put the love of the country in their minds and that can form a better relationship with their employees and the Federation.

By doing so, NPFL will rise up again and corruption will be eradicated in our sports because everything will be transparent. Cameroon and Senegal are doing well in this regard.

More so, for those of you that still clamoring for Oga Rohr hmmm, have you people forgotten so soon?

What happened to Eguavoen has happened to Oga Rohr in the past to name few for you all, against, Madagascar, South Africa and CAR. So, why calling for Oga return is what I don’t get.

Nonetheless, to put our sports in place, we have to ask the current NFF members to vacate their positions. The have to go first.

After that, we haven’t failed with our best local coaches yet. What do you expect from Salisu Yusuf, Aigbogun and Agu? Were they the best to represent us? That is the work of corruption.

Voting out Amaju Pinnick and his company is the best option for Nigerians if we knows. By doing so, our ex players will replace them all. Those who have played the game should be the ones in charge of our sports.

More so, let’s have a rethink and start afresh. We have Egbo, Emelalo, Olofinjana, Peter Rufai, Ike Shorunmu and Enyeama in place that can work things out for us.

Let’s give them a chance and I believe they won’t disappoint us.

If we don’t change the current NFF, no matter how great the new coaching crew may be neither black or white, is going to fail under Amaju Pinnick. The system is very corrupt.

So, Edoman, Oga Rohr is not the solution. If he was, why did he ignore Dessers for Ighalo? Akpeyi and John Noble for Adeleye? And we were disgraced in front of our home crowd twice, against South Africa in Uyo and against CAR in Lagos.

For his records against the big teams like Cameroon and Algeria, he did his best in those matches plus we had our best and experienced players such as Mikel Obi and Victor Moses available then but after the departure of those players including Ighalo, Oga Rohr started struggling. He and Amaju believed bringing back into Super Eagles was a solution but they had no idea. Ighalo was also forced on coach Eguavoen because the gaffer could not stand with his words against Amaju.

Am I laying? My people, let’s have our ex players in the NFF position and in the coaching department. Things will change quickly if we do that. Cisse and Etobo are the perfect examples.

Is Paseiro who has bad records you preferred to our own that I have mentioned their names above?

Hmmm. I am warning you again Nigerians. We are smarter than those in charge of our sports. Let’s chase Amaju Pinnick and his carbals away first then, we can have a well deserved environment for our sports.

Hmmmm. I remain humble as always. Yours sincerely, omo9ja is wishing Super Eagles and our nation well. It is not over yet. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

      • Dr Banks 2 years ago

Omo9ja, you are just vomiting rubbish as usual, you’ll never change

So Oliseh discovered Ikeme? You are absolutely wrong

Ikeme was first called up to the “Super Eagles” squad in March 2007 by new manager Berti Vogts, who named a 37-man provisional squad for a 2008 Africa Cup of Nations qualification match against Uganda that introduced other foreign-born players such as Victor Anichebe

He made his international debut for Nigeria on 5 September 2015 against Tanzania in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualification game. Before his debut, he has been 2nd choice to Enyeama until Oliseh chased Enyeama into early retirement. Ikeme made three appearances early on in Nigeria’s successful qualification campaign for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, but could not go to the final tournament due to his cancer treatment, which manager Gernot Rohr called his greatest regret.

Rohr lost to SA with an experimental young team, Osimhen debuted in that match and he went ahead to qualify ahead of SA for AFCON ’19 with a game to spare. He lost to Madagascar after we had already qualify for R16 and he went ahead to dismiss Defending Champion (Cameroon) and SA in the QF enroute a Bronze medal podium finish.
Rohr lost to CAR in Lagos with a last minute lack of concentration by our defenders but went ahead to beat CAR 2:0 away thereby qualifying with 2 games to spare

That’s what good coaching is all about, you may fall inadvertently but pick yourself up immediately to achieve greater heights. Ditto compare to your “Our own” whom are perennial failures…………Eguavoen failed in AFCON R16 and followed up with Qatar WC playoff failure, we missed 3 AFCON Qualifications out of 4 AFCONs due to your local coaches Inadequacies and incompetencies (Including Oliseh, Siasia and Amuneke and even Keshi).

Do you want to plug us into another heartbreak in the nearest future when we are yet to recover from this current misfortune? Na only you, Omo9ja and your cohorts go die alone of hypertension and stroke.

  • Buhari will have to continue in 2023 before Rohr will come back as SE Coach again.

I can’t still believe he lost the that chance, a one in one with the goal keeper. He is a one dimensional winger and lack goal sense.

Egbo cannot be regarded as a tested and trusted fellow yet but just a flash in the pan coach, let him prove himself with another club side first or be employed as a GK coach for SE or Head coach of the Junior team before being considered for Almighty SE

Foolishness is making same mistakes again and again. @CJ, Omo9ja, JimmyBall et al, grow out of your foolishness for once and be progressive

  • I support Cj. Since we are still paying him, Mr omo9ja, I don’t know what you have with Mr Rohr, but Rohr I know can’t lose home and away I bet you give Rohr the target of afcon he we win it, give him target for World cup he will do it, I don’t know why you see Rohr as a failure, Rohr did not fail for me is one of the best coach for Nigeria,if you can tell me were he failed I will support you, but he was playing with Nff, because NFF is corrupt so he get his target don, so Nff brought yobo and Eguavouen to take over because they think they know the job but know sir the man did not teach them everything so they failed but Rohr did not fail,Nff blackmail on Rohr, Ghana is not a good team but good tactics good coordination so they qualified, Nigeria we got names but no tactics no pattern no coordination that why we could not score,Nacho don’t have this kind of coordination and tactics in Nigeria coach that know what to do, we qualify for world cup because the coach know what to do

  • It is retrogressive, selfish and senseless to call Rohr back who is tactically myopic and old fashioned.

I don’t care if he is still been paid. If he is still useful, he should have teamed up with Eguavoen since he is still receiving salaries. Rohr is a traitor who secretly worked with Ghana and some players against SE.

We move for a better Coach plssss!!! Let’s get seasoned and competent indigenous Coaches with solid tack record/CV to show!
