Manchester United have spent more than any European club this decade on transfers, according to a new study published by the CIES Football Observatory.
Man United have disbursed a whooping 1.3 billion pounds over the last 10 years , recouping 395 million pounds from players sales with a net of 903 million pounds,
In terms of net expenditure , Man United have outspent fellow heavyweights; Manchester City (826.6 million pounds), Paris Saint Germain (790.4 million pounds) and Barcelona (546 million pounds).
However Arsenal rank fifth (492.5 million pounds) on the list ahead of European giants Juventus (471.2 million pounds) and AC Milan (362.9 million pounds), while Premier League trio Everton (360.4 million pounds), Aston Villa (356.2 million pounds) and Chelsea (346.9 million pounds) complete the top 10.

West Ham(315.9 million pounds), Liverpool(293.1 million pounds), Tottenham(283.8 million pounds), Crystal Palace(246. 6 million pounds), Leicester City(232.3 million pounds), Brighton(209.4 million pounds) and Wolves (208.7 million pounds) are all in the top 20.
At the other end of the scale LIGUE 1 sides Lille (-293.2 million pounds) and Lyon (-207.5 million pounds) registered chart topping surpluses over the last decade.
In fact, 46 of the 98 clubs returned accounts in the black with Genoa (177.4 million pounds), Udinese (147.8 million pounds), Atalanta(136 million pounds), Montpelier(83.6 million pounds) and Atletic Bilbao (97.1 million pounds) among the most gainful.
Current Premier League clubs have accumulated a collective 5.7 billion net spend over the decade, six times the amount spent by the Serie A and 12 more times than the amount spent by Bundesliga sides.
Meanwhile, current Ligue 1 sides have recorded a net profit from transfer business over the decade with an impressive 187.3 million surplus.
Man United’s chart-topping spending tracks back to the beginning of the 2011/12 when they lost the Premier League title to Manchester City courtesy of Aguero’s last gasp strike, before reclaiming the title in Alex Ferguson’s last season.
Their spending has failed to translate to success on the pitch since the Scot’s departure with the club only winning three trophies; FA Cup, League Cup and the Europa League.
