Former Manchester United skipper Roy Keane says Arsenal ‘have enough’ to survive in the Premier League this season.
Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Wolves at the Emirates on Sunday means they have just 13 points from their first ten matches this term, which is their worst total at this stage in Premier League history.
Gabriel’s goal midway through the first half was Arsenal’s first from open play in the last eight hours of league football and Mikel Arteta’s side face bitter rivals Tottenham next Sunday.
With the pressure building on the Spaniard, Keane jokingly claimed the Gunners will ‘have enough’ to stay clear of relegation.
Asked how big next week’s North London derby is for Arteta, Keane told SkySports: “They all seem big at the moment obviously don’t they?
“That might be the best thing for them to have next week- a derby. Obviously there’s no supporters there going away maybe less pressure than at home.
“But I still think Arsenal will have enough to stay up I think. I still think they’ll be strong enough to stay in the division.”
Arsenal take on Rapid Vienna in the Europa League before travelling to Spurs next Sunday.
Arteta claimed he was happy with the response of his players in the second half, suggesting they showed the type of ‘desire’ he wants to see from them to win matches.
“It’s a really bad result,”said Arteta. “The performance in the first half we had our moments. They had two shots on target and score twice.
“We had a great reaction in the second half, we went all for it. The team showed great desire and how much they want to win the game. We created opportunities, the chances but the goal didn’t arrive. I’m disappointed because I think we merit more from the game.”

I wish arsenal can go on relegation this season I for happy ehnnnnn.
Lolzzzzzz
The premier league table looks quite interesting. Man United in 9th place, Man City in 11th, and Arsenal in 14th, just 7 points above the RELEGATION ZONE! When was the last time the words Arsenal and relegation were used in the same sentence?
Goodness gracious!
Keano’s mischievous remark rubs salt into injury. With the club sinking to this all time low under the embattled Arteta, the fans are running out of patience fast. The board are not too far behind, predictably. Another couple of poor results, and Arteta might be given the heave-ho, in acrimonious fashion!
Yes, the league’s been very competitive and unpredictable so far. And the hectic schedule has not helped, with clubs losing players to injury and burn-out. But these excuses will not fly. There is no two ways about it. Arsenal need to respond to this disturbing downturn. Or, horror of horrors, championship football might be their portion next season!
As for Keano, instead of making fun of Arsenal, he perhaps should pay more attention to his beloved Man United languishing in 9th place! Loooool!
They do have a game to spare, and a win will likely propel them back into the top four on the table.
