Man United’s Fernandes Accuses Guardiola Of Disrespect During Manchester Derby

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has accused Pep Guardiola of disrespecting him in the Manchester derby on Sunday.

Fernandes was caught on camera making a shushing gesture to Guardiola in the second-half of the Reds’ 2-0 win at Old Trafford.

According to Fernandes, he made the gesture towards Guardiola, who was standing on the touchline, because the City boss was disrespectful to him.

“I talked about [the incident] with some friends,” Fernandes told Sky Sport.

“Some people think like, ‘Pep won everything, who is Bruno to do this to him?’

“But I think it’s about respect. Now, outside of the pitch, calm, I don’t do this again if I’m on the pitch now.

“But at that moment, the words he told me made me mad and, on the pitch, I’m a little bit nervous. It’s the kind of player I am.”

The former Sporting Lisbon star added: “I have respect for Pep and what he wins and what he did for football, because he changed some mentalities in football.

“But I think in that moment, he didn’t respect me, so he didn’t deserve my respect at that moment on the pitch.”

The midfielder was key in United’s 2-0 win over their local rivals at Old Trafford.

He earned an assist, setting up Anthony Martial’s opening goal – a free-kick in which he cleverly dinked over the top of the Man City defence – while he was also instrumental in dictating play throughout the contest.

It has even been suggested that Paul Pogba’s decision to stay in Manchester is down to the transformation Fernandes has imposed on the club’s form.

On Thursday the Portuguese, who won February’s PFA Player of the Month, featured in United’s 5-0 mauling of Austrian side LASK in round 16 the Europa League.
