Italy head coach, Roberto Mancini is targeting victory at the 2026 FIFA World Cup set to be hosted by the United States of America (USA), Canada and Mexico.
The Gli Azurri (Blues) of Italy have failed to qualify for two successive FIFA World Cups; Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022 , though they won Euro 2020.
Italy defeated England 1-0 in a UEFA Nations League game on September 23 . Giacomo Raspadori scored the lone goal of the encounter in the 68th minute.
While speaking at a Social Football Summit in Rome, Mancini highlighted Italy’s qualification for the semi final of the UEFA Nations League.
“We deserved the final four of the Nations League, we beat England who could win the World Cup in Qatar,” Football Italia quoted Mancini as saying.
“The guys put everything into it at a time when their conditions are not optimal l, we changed our system of play and they did well.
“To play a World Cup, we have to wait for another four years, but we want to try to go to America and win that’s our goal.
“Everyone was very positive towards me, then winning the European Championship is the best thing about my job.”
Italy have won the FIFA World Cup four times;on home soil in 1934, France 1938, Spain 1982 and Germany 2006.
Gli Azurri were runners up at Mexico ’70 and USA ’94, losing to Brazil at both editions.Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
