However, the 21-year-old announced himself to the racing world when winning the Spanish Grand Prix on his first outing with Red Bull after promotion form Toro Rosso in 2016. Sometimes thought of as a reckless driver and one who takes too many risks, the youngster has been involved in a few incidents, but since crashing at the 2018 Monaco Grand Prix, has been a real force in the sport.

He sits fourth in the 2019 standings after two third-place finishes and four fourths, and ahead of this weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix, spoke of how both he and his team are progressing in the right direction. “I’ve matured, that’s true, and not just because of last year’s accident,” he told La Presse.

“It’s also true in my life in general. I’m getting older, I have more experience in life, but it’s also true that sometimes you have to make mistakes before you get better. That’s what happened to me, I think. “Ferrari and Mercedes still have the advantage, but we are closer each race. I think we will often be competitive this season.”
