Mexico vs Nigeria: Super Falcons Look To End Five-Game Losing Streak

The Super Falcons of Nigeria will continue their preparation for this year’s women’s World Cup when they take on hosts of the four-nation Revelation Cup, Mexico.

The game comes up today (Wednesday, 15 February) inside the Estadio Leon.

Other teams also taking part in the tournament are Costa Rica and Colombia.

This will be the first time the Super Falcons will face Mexico at the senior level.

Unfortunately, Randy Waldrum’s side go into the game against Mexico on the back of a poor run of form.

The nine-time Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) champions have lost their last five games.

The last time they tasted victory was at the 2022 WAFCON which was a 1-0 against Cameroon in the quarter-finals.

Since the win against the Indomie Lionesses, the Falcons have lost to Morocco, Zambia, United States and Zambia.

Their poor run started when they lost in the semi-finals to hosts of the 2022 WAFCON Morocco on penalties.

In the third-placed game against Zambia, the Falcons lost 1-0 before losing 4-0 and 2-1 to the United States in a two-legged friendlies in September 2022.

And their last fixture was another friendly in October 2022 where they suffered a 2-0 defeat.

Meanwhile, the Falcons will participate in another invitational tournament billed for Turkey in April.

As long as Waldrum is in charge of the team I will only be watching the highlight. I have never missed any of their previous games but I’m tired of getting disappointed.

If u have iptv smarters pro u can watch it on TUDN its a mexican channel but its laggy tho.

The game isnt entertaining i must confess. Still 0:0 with 62 mins played.

If oshoala knew she wasn’t going to make it, why mot communicate with the coaches so they can make alternate plans. Why waste dat slot dat could’ve gone to another player

1:0 to Mexico. At dis rate, we are going to d worldcup to just add number. The coaching is atrocious. This Mexican team is very poor but are better than 9ja, dats to tell you how bad we are. Maybe d heat is affecting d players but damn our girls are not playing gootball at all. Not sure d fixation with Onumonu, she isn’t fast. Where is Gift Monday, Ajakaye even Idoko sef? Young ladies dat can trouble defenders. This coach no be am abeg. Against Australia and canada, we go collect if dis coach doesn’t sit up and infuse dis team with agressive youngsters.

1 goal down disappointing!Don’t know Nigeria to cancel out towards the end of a game best do something else with my time sick of our male and female teams succumbing to big nation’s whose players are at per to ours.

A lack of a coherent and cohesive discernable style is becoming a theme in the randy waldrum led falcons and it’s a worrying sight honestly.
How many more matches must it take before one can say our falcons play this way or that way?

      FT Mexico 1-0 Nigeria
A disjointed performance from our players whom on an individual scale had a lot of poor performers and a few bright spots.

Final 1:0 to Mexico. Not sure i can take any positives from dis game. Not sure what d coach has been doing all dis while. I guess d only positive is dat its just a friendly and its inconsequential but d rate at which this team is losing is becoming alarming ooo.
It seems d team isn’t improving at all I really hope the team gets better b4 d worldcup as calamity awaits. We concede too often and can’t put d ball in d net, dats a remedy for disaster. This is a mexican team dat d falcons should be beating like 3:0. The girls from SA will whitewash dis team, even Morocco will beat dis mexican team. Tye team just needs to improve as well as d coaching IMHO.

This man is not better than local coaches that have coached the falcons….He has enjoyed the the privilege of having the most friendlies and mini tournaments than any other super falcons coach and yet there is no improvement. Dude even had the audacity to say the Nigerian press is harsh on him lol. This guy won’t even be allowed to handle the U.S under 13 national team.

When will NFF sack the Wodrobe and Pesseiro like they rightly sacked Rhor foe our teams to be well built? Will will these cows of gosehn stop feeding fat on us without national resjoy? Sack all thses oy8bo coaches ooooooooooooo

As much as the buck stops with d coach, firing him now will be counterproductive considering the proximity to the worldcup, it never bodes well for 9ja wen we fire a coach on d eve of any competition. Moreover, the players have to take some of d blame for these shambolic displays of late. They seem to be regressing rather than progressing. How can out goalie be the best player on d team. With all d so called experience d team has, our midfield is alway overrun by other teams. We are never fluid and confident in posession, 2-3 touches and we give d ball away, there is no sense of urgency, just lackadaisical attitude by all of dem, our attack is blunt, we hardly get shots on goal let alone on target, d defense is always breached, cant remember a game we kept a clean sheet as well. The girls need to really up dia game otherwise disaster awaits. Am never d one to write off any 9ja team, as i blif we raise our game wen d chips are down but our fortunes need to change and fast roo. Its not all doom and gloom tho, d team should learn from dis abd put in d better performance d next game which i blif they will do. I still have faith d girls will come good. I was really hoping dis worldcup wouldve been used to blood several young, athletic, energetic players from our u17 and u20 to affird dem experience at d world stage while using d opportunity to faze out d agbalagbas from d team. Just my opinion tho

The day we will know that all this white carpenter journeymen coaches have nothing to offer us… that day we will become a nation who knows its worth… despite being a soccer nation for over 60years… We still go and hire idiots just because of inferiority complex to come and help us run our house. Blacks can’t manage themselves and must depend a whiteman who takes his bath only once a week to direct our lives…
