Mikel Injured, Set To Miss Eagles’ Second Round Tie

Mikel Injured, Set To Miss Eagles’ Second Round Tie

Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi is set to miss the side’s Round of 16 game at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations due to a knee injury, Completesports.com reports.

Mikel, who has just signed a two-year contract with Turkish Super Lig outfit, Trabzonspor copped the injury in Sunday’s 2-0 loss to the Barea of Madagascar.

The former Chelsea midfielder missed a recovery training on Monday morning with a swelling in his knee and is now expected to be out for at least a week.

Mikel has made two appearances for the Super Eagles at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.

His performances have however come under scrutiny due to his failure to make much impact in the two games.

Mikel failed to complete 90 minutes in both matches and was left on the substitute bench in Nigeria’s second game against the Syli Nationale of Guinea.

The Super Eagles are still waiting to know the identity of their second round opponent which could be arch rivals Ghana or next door neighbours, Benin Republic. Guinea-Bissau are also in contention for the Group C second position.

When a few of us dared to suggest Mikel should be left out of the squad, the reaction from fans here was monumental. Now their eyes don open.

All of you against Mikel are evil. You all from the days of Okocha and co, you all will condemn players when they are in service, who knows what is in his mind, he maybe playing not to get injured so he gets a good deal. Now it’s done, we have qualified. You all are all coaches Nigerians fans know it all. Well done John Mikel wish you speedy recovery and hopefully we be in the finals.

Wish u a speedy recovery, General Mikel Obi. Nigerian fans are a bunch of ingrates, surprised at the wicked comments of some people who call themselves humans. You ain’t humans but beasts! This is a guy who has sacrificed a lot for his country, how funny some people have forgotten the past in a flash. He needs our encouragement and not all these wicked and evil words from people who once sang his praises. Super eagles bounce back and all you wicked beasts that have been silent for a very long time now shall be put to shame. I shall save ur names and comments and repost them when the time comes. Lots of hypocrites and sycophants here.
