Milner Facing Fitness Race

James Milner is a major doubt for Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Burnley on Sunday due to a muscle issue.

Former England international Milner has been a regular for the Reds this season, making 32 appearances across all competitions, while his versatility has also been an asset for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

However, the 33-year-old’s involvement at Anfield this weekend now looks in doubt, with Klopp confirming he has a muscular issue that will be assessed further over the coming days.

“Millie we will have to see. It is Millie, so everything heals quicker with him!” Klopp told reporters. “He was already outside yesterday.

He had a little muscle issue, but there are still two days to go until the game. I think if you ask Millie he would say, ‘I will be ready’ but we have to see.”

The news is more positive on defender Dejan Lovren, who has been sidelined since early January with a hamstring issue, as he resumed full training this week and could now play some part against Burnley.

“It’s a rather positive moment, it looks really good,” Klopp added. “Dejan trained yesterday for the first time, [in] full, completely normal.”

Joe Gomez has also stepped up his rehabilitation from a broken leg and Klopp feels he could come back into consideration after the international break, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Rhian Brewster are also stepping up their comebacks from long-term knee and ankle problems.
