Mourinho Hit With Two-Game Ban Following Altercation With Assistant Referee

Roma coach Jose Mourinho has been banned for two matches following an incedent in his team’s 2-1 defeat to Cremonese on Tuesda, February 28 at the Giovanni Zini Stadium.

Frank Tsadjout scored first for Cremonese in the 17th minute, Leonardo Spinazzola equalised for Roma in 71st minute and Daniel Ciofani scored the winner for the home team 12 minutes later.

Mourinho was red carded after an altercation with the fourth official at the beginning of the second half with Roma trailing 1-0, and at the end of the game Mourinho ventured into the referee dressing room to confront the match officials.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, organiser of Italian topflight Serie A, released a statement sanctioning the Portuguese manager.

“For having contested a refereeing decision in a forceful manner in the second minute of the second half and repeating this behaviour at the time of sending off.

“Furthermore for entering the referees’ dressing room and addressing the fourth official with offensive expressions and inferences at the end of the match.”

With the ban Mourinho is set to miss Roma’s Serie A game with Juventus on May 5 and Sassuolo on May 12.

Roma are fifth on the Serie A table with 44 points obtained after 24 games.
