Munster Ace In Fitness Race

Munster fly-half Joey Carbery is facing a race against time to make the European Champions Cup semi-final against Saracens later this month.

Carbery is struggling with the hamstring injury he picked up in the quarter-final win over Edinburgh last month, and is unlikely to make the Ricoh Arena clash on April 20, according toe coach Johann van Graan.

“Joey at this stage is highly unlikely for the semi-final,” Van Graan said. “There’s still a possibility but no, like we said last week we’ll just take it day by day. But at this stage we’ll see how he is next week.”

Meanwhile, Van Graan has also moved quickly to play down fears that Keith Earls could miss out after the winger sat out the weekend victory over Cardiff Blues.

“Keith’s [omission] was more precautionary” said the former Springboks forward coach. “He’s such an important player and he was really stiff in the warm-up so we decided to pull him out.”
