Musa Donates ₦2m To Struggling Atlanta Olympic Gold Medal Winner Obiekwu

Super Eagles skipper Ahmed Musa has donated the sum of ₦2 million to struggling former Nigeria International Kingsley Obiekwu.

A member of the Atlanta ’96 Olympics gold medal winning squad known as Dream Team, Obiekwu disclosed in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Akwa on Tuesday that he uses his only car for commercial transport to sustain his family.

The 47-year-old played for Rangers International FC, Enugu Udoji United and Go Ahead Eagles in the Netherlands during his playing career.

Obiekwu, who is the current coach of INGAS FC in Enugu, noted that things has not been rosy since he returned to Nigeria in 2008.

He said he had to combine his coaching job at INGAS FC with the commercial transport business to make ends meet.

He stated that his former employees owe him over N6 million cumulatively.

“Yes, I am a commercial transporter; there is nothing to hide about it. Man has to do what is legal to pay his family bills.

“I have four children at Enugu State University of Technology and my last child is in primary five.

“I have coached Rangers International FC, Ifeanyi Ubah FC, Delta Force FC, Asaba, Giant Brila and also Union Sportif, Krake, Republic of Benin. All of them owe me,” Obiekwu said.

Following the sad revelation, Musa has now assisted the former defender with ₦2 million which Obiekwu confirmed he has received.

Obiekwu was an unused substitute throughout the Dream Team’s campaign at the 1996 Olympics.

He went on to make eight appearances for the Super Eagles from 1996 to 1999.

  • Way to go musa, you see why you ppl can’t question some players relivancy in se. The influence they bring off the field is what still making some of them relevant.

Tell me how many politician will do this.

Musa has done very well indeed.
I hope other players and well wishers will step up as well.
If we wait for government to do the needful, Shagari and his family will be condemned to poverty.
Hopefuly, as the donations come in, Shagari will invest wisely for the future.

Shagari…chai almighty has fallen…I remember when this guy bought jersies and carton of boots for samba FC Enugu …..God pls remember this man.

  • Musa might actually have what other players lack, am not talking of football qualities alone here so no one should attack me.

Olise is not crazy making him captain of se back then.

I believe this guy has a very wonderful character off the pitch.

Who even know may be is the one motivating se players to continue playing when NFF refuse to pay their bonuses.

    God bless you

If this guy can do this for a player he never played with, and other similar gestures too numerous to mention, imagine what he does for his teammates as captain of the team.

Anyone who is not happy Ahmed Musa, the SE captain, is still in the team, he should go hang himself at the nearest highway interchange close to him.

    • Chinenye 2 years ago

This man always lacking sense of reasoning. What has performance on the pitch got to do with off the pitch gestures? Whoever that wants Musa to remain in the national team at the expense of better players in his position is an enemy of Nigeria progress

      • Dr. Drey 2 years ago

And in your mind now you have made sense and reasoned properly……LMAOOooooo

  • @Chinenye, while I will not say anyone who is not happy with musa should hang himself.

The thing is this whether will like it or not musa is at the very last phase of se career, the motivation the guy brings to the team can’t just be throw into dustbin.

Olishe no why he gave him captain band even when vincent has not yet retire from eagle.

I want to believe the influence of the guy off the pitch is so strong that many coach can’t just throw away.

Also remember that inclussion of just one old experience player will not make the performance of the entire team to be bad.

Again musa is at the very last phase so let us not just say anyone who still wants him to be included is an enemy of progress.

Those times when NFf fail to pay the bonuses of these players who know wether the likes of musa are the one encouraging them to continue to play for Nigeria.

So somehow one old experience player is not too much to be accomodated into team.
