Newcastle are reported to be weighing up a move for young midfielder Erkan Eyibil, who plays for Bundesliga side Mainz. The midfielder has been a revelation for the Bundesliga outfit’s under-19 side this season, firing home 12 goals from midfield and providing a further five assists for his team-mates.

It is no surprise that such form has caught the attention of rival clubs throughout Europe, with Newcastle reported to have sent scouts to watch him in action. The 17-year-old recently earned himself a call-up to the Germany Under-18 squad and Mainz will be determined to fight off all interest as they believe he is destined for the top.
That will not stop Newcastle from making a bid though and the Bundesliga side will face a battle to keep hold of their rising star this summer. The Magpies will face strong competition from West Ham United, who are also said to be keeping a close eye on the player’s development.
