NFF Mourns Ex-Super Eagles Defender Shofoluwe

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has expressed sadness over the death of former Super Eagles defender Yisa Shofoluwe.

Sofoluwe, popularly known as the dean of defence passed away on Tuesday after a battle with a brain ailment.

He died at the Intensive Care Unit of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) after he was diagnosed with mild cerebral atrophy, a brain disease.

The NFF wrote on Twitter:”We are devastated to hear of the passing away of former Green Eagles Defender Yisa Sofoluwe after a brief illness on Tuesday.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and football community in Nigeria. May his soul Rest In Peace.”

Shofoluwe was a member of the Super Eagles squad to the 1984 and 1988 African Nations Cups in Côte d’Ivoire and Morocco respectively.

Among top clubs he played for are Shooting Stars, Abiola Babes, Julius Berger and Gateway United and was an FA Cup winner in 1985 and 1987.
