Nigeria, Netherlands Woo Zirkzee; Hanegem Pushes For Bayern Boy’s Oranje Bow

Both Nigeria and the Netherlands are making serious plans to have young Dutch-born forward, Joshua Zirkzee of Bayern Munich play for their respective national teams, Completesports.com reports.

Nigeria coach, Gernot Rohr intensified plans to have Zirkzee in the Super Eagles in the nearest future after watching him feature in a Bundesliga game on Saturday.

Zirkzee who was on for the entire duration of the match impressed Rohr a lot with the youngster netting Bayern’s third goal in a 6-0 routing of Hoffenheim.

However, Rohr may not entirely have his way as regards the attacker as ex-Dutch midfielder, Willem Van Hanegem believes Zirkzee is ready for the Dutch national team.

After making a good start to his professional career at the club level, Zirkzee is now tipped to play a hugely important role for the Dutch National team.

Speaking to Algemeen Dagblad (via Voetbul Primeur), Van Hanegem urged Netherlands boss, Ronald Koeman to call up Zirkzee for upcoming games against the USA and Spain.

“I hope Ronald Koeman will really summon that boy for upcoming international matches against the United States and Spain. Zirkzee at 18 already deserves a chance at the Oranje,” Hanegem said.

So far this season, the 18-year-old has made six appearances for the Bavarians and has scored three goals which is quite impressive for a player his age.

Fantastic player. But never gonna be a drop of tears for a spilled milk should he chooses Holland, I will always wish him well. But him choosing Nigeria will be massive boost to SE quality n greatly appreciated.

Interesting to see which among the two countries he pledges his allegiance.I hope we win the battle for this exciting youngster.
However,if he chooses to continue his international football with the orange boys i know most of the super eagles fans will be gutted missing out on this fantastic talent, but it’s what it’s,more like a hit and miss this days.
I know despite the glut of talents in the super eagles especially in the attacking department,Zirkzee would always be in the plans of the gaffer because of his preference for younger lads besides he plays for Bayern Munich one of the best teams in Europe.
My verdicts,i honestly think Netherland is in pole position.

  • There’s this inner conviction in me that this lad will choose Naija as against Netherlands.

Naija Fans, relax we will get this lad to add up to our crew of strikers. No dull moments

Dude reminds me so much of Ruud Gullit, and I’m not referring to his hair style. The same movement, gliding about the pitch, good with both feet, especially long range passes, fantastic link up play, my oh my. Looks really good at such a young age. Gullit 2.0.
