Both Nigeria and the Netherlands are making serious plans to have young Dutch-born forward, Joshua Zirkzee of Bayern Munich play for their respective national teams, Completesports.com reports.
Nigeria coach, Gernot Rohr intensified plans to have Zirkzee in the Super Eagles in the nearest future after watching him feature in a Bundesliga game on Saturday.
Zirkzee who was on for the entire duration of the match impressed Rohr a lot with the youngster netting Bayern’s third goal in a 6-0 routing of Hoffenheim.
However, Rohr may not entirely have his way as regards the attacker as ex-Dutch midfielder, Willem Van Hanegem believes Zirkzee is ready for the Dutch national team.
After making a good start to his professional career at the club level, Zirkzee is now tipped to play a hugely important role for the Dutch National team.
Speaking to Algemeen Dagblad (via Voetbul Primeur), Van Hanegem urged Netherlands boss, Ronald Koeman to call up Zirkzee for upcoming games against the USA and Spain.
“I hope Ronald Koeman will really summon that boy for upcoming international matches against the United States and Spain. Zirkzee at 18 already deserves a chance at the Oranje,” Hanegem said.
So far this season, the 18-year-old has made six appearances for the Bavarians and has scored three goals which is quite impressive for a player his age.
