Nigeria To Immortalise Iheanacho, Ndidi’s FA Cup Celebrations With Leicester City

Plans are underway by the Federal Government to immortalized Super Eagles duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi over their recent display of the Nigerian flag after winning the FA Cup on Saturday with Leicester City.

Recall that a Youri Tielemans’ thunderous long-range shot was enough to earn the Foxes their first FA Cup title against Chelsea.

In a statement issued by the Director of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), Otunba Segun Runsewe, who also doubles as the President of World Crafts Council, stated that such celebration should be immortalized.

He stated that an art competition either in painting, drawing, or printmaking of the players will be initiated for a one-month period which could have mouth-watering prizes like a trip to London.

He stated that there is a need to document, institutionalize and legalize the legacy of Iheanacho and Ndidi

“Beneath the pomp, glitz, and glamour of the European FA final between Leicester City and Chelsea, a uniquely spectacular and outstanding show of patriotism was displayed,” it read.

“It came in the manner that Kelechi and Ndidi soaked themselves in their love for Nigeria by wrapping themselves in Nigerian Green-White-Green national colour to celebrate their victory over Chelsea football club.”

“The collaboration of the Society of Nigerian Artists, Abuja, the NCAC is instituting an art competition that celebrates the intersection of sports and culture referencing the Kelechi and Ndidi actions with the Nigerian flag in the Leicester City victory over Chelsea Football Club,” Runsewe added.

Playing politics with everything… allow a blossoming environment and you will have many Iheanachos and Ndidis from all over Nigeria. This is what merit does… take people far not nepotistic tendencies! You are immortalizing Biafrans to promote your narrative while still sending a sectional Army to shootdown the kinsmen of those you are immortalizing… if no be football nothing remain as glue for the country Nigeria. Talking from the shared pains of a Benue man because Fulani killers the terrorize my people also… they even brag about it on National TV. It’s well… Let one Nigeria be in action and deed also, not just in words… #BuhariNoTry…
