Nigerian 17-year-old’s UCL Goal Against Barcelona Wins Antwerp’s December Goal Award

Nigerian 17-year-old forward George Ilenikhena has won the Royal Antwerp Goal of the Month for December.

Ilenikhena’s late strike against Barcelona in the Champions League was picked as the best for the month in review.

The goal, which was scored in the 92nd minute, secured a 3-2 home win for Antwerp against Barcelona.

It was Antwerp’s only win in Group H which also had FC Porto and Shakhtar Donetsk.

Despite the win, Antwerp finished bottom of the group after just one win and five defeats.

This season Ilenikhena has scored five goals in 18 appearances in the Belgian Jupiler.

Ilenikhena was born in Lagos, Nigeria, to Nigerian parents, but he arrived in France aged only three, growing up in Antony, Hauts-de-Seine.

He first featured with France youth teams in the summer of 2021, as he was selected with the Under-16.
