Nigerian striker Suleiman Abdullahi has joined Swedish first division side IFK Goteborg on a free transfer after putting pen on a three-year deal.
IFK Goteborg confirmed Abdullahi’s signing on their website on Tuesday.
The statement read:”We have completed a new acquisition that spearheads the squad. The 25-year-old Nigerian striker Suleiman Abdullahi is on a free transfer from the Bundesliga club Union Berlin.“
Speaking on the acquisition of Abdullahi, IFK Goteborg coach Mikael Stahre said:“We are recruiting a player with great potential who has also shown before that he can deliver in Scandinavian football.

“We believe that Suleiman can lift our environment and reach the same high level even in an all-Swedish context. What stands out most to me is his physique, speed and goal threat.”
And according to the club’s chief scout Stig Torbjörnsen:“Suleiman is a player that I personally have followed for a long time, ever since he came to Viking.
“You can really say that he is well scouted. In addition to his football qualities, Suleiman is a calm, stable family man. We see that he will fit in very well with us, on the pitch and in the group.”
Born in Kaduna, Abdullahi signed a contract with Viking FK in 2015 and made his debut for them on 6 April 2015.
In June 2016, Abdullahi signed a four-year contract with Bundesliga 2 side Eintracht Braunschweig. In spring 2018 he injured his ankle which kept him out of action until the end of 2017–18 season. In two seasons with Braunschweig he made 41 league appearances scoring 8 goals and making 6 assists.
In August 2018, following Braunschweig’s relegation, Abdullahi joined Union Berlin on loan for the season. Union Berlin secured an option to sign him permanently until 2022. It was reported he would be able to return to training four to six weeks later as a result of his ankle injury.
On 1 June 2019, Union Berlin signed Abdullahi on a permanent transfer following his loan spell at the club.
In August 2020, Abdullahi returned to Eintracht Braunschweig, joining on loan for the 2020–21 season.
