Standard Tennis Development Club Owerri (STDC) will slug it out with Enugu Sports Club in one of the semi-finals of the 2018/2019 East of the Niger Inter Club Tennis Championship (ENIC) slated for the Nnewi Sports Club on January 31and February 1, 2019, Completesports.com reports.

STDC Owerri saw off Onitsha Sports Club by four matches to one in the quarter finals.

Enugu Sports Club qualified for the semis on technical ground, benefitting from the disqualification of their rivals Calabar Sports Club in the quarter-finals for fielding an unlicenced player against ENIC regulations.

Defending champions, Orlu Recreation Club is billed to take on Aba Sports Club in the other semi-final match.

Nnewi won the hosting rights of the tennis showpiece which was bidded for by tennis clubs in the region as a mark of respect for the former MD of Cutix Plc Nnewi, Chief Ifeanyi Uzodike, who retired from the service of the company and which in turn has sponsored the competition for the last twenty years.

President of Nigeria Tennis Federation Engr. I. Akindayo will grace the final of this year’s ENIC tennis championship.

He told ENIC media that the Championship has remained one of the best organized championships in the country.

ENIC tennis league remains the oldest, longest running and most successful tennis clubs league in Nigeria.
