Edel FC, Awka, are set to relocate to Enugu as their new home base ahead of the 2025/2026 Nigeria National League (NNL) season, barring any last-minute change of plans, Completesports.com has exclusively gathered.
Management Eyeing Promotion to NPFL
Checks reveal that the Galloping Zebras’ hierarchy are favourably disposed to moving the team to the Coal City in a bid to ensure more effective management and improved results, with the ultimate ambition of gaining promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
From Nnewi United to Edel FC
Originally formed as Nnewi United by Chief Gabriel Chukwuma, Nnanyelugo Nnewi — a former Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) — following the acquisition of Gabros International FC by Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, the club changed its name to Edel FC five seasons ago, relocating its home ground to Rojenny Stadium, Oba, near Onitsha.
Edel FC Awka Stay Nears End
However, three seasons ago, Edel FC shifted base to Awka, using the Awka City Stadium as their home ground. Now, with the 2025/2026 season fast approaching, Completesports.com has learnt that Enugu is the club’s targeted destination.

“We may have watched Edel FC for the last time here in Awka in the just-concluded 2024/2025 season,” an insider familiar with the relocation plans told Completesports.com.
“The team will relocate to Enugu for the upcoming 2025/2026 season. The management is working hard on that. It’s just a matter of days before they unveil the movement to the Coal City.
“The idea of moving the club to Enugu sits well with the owner, Jude Edeh, a Nnewi-born business mogul based in Europe. The modalities are being fine-tuned at the moment,” the credible source added.
Okpala’s Arrival Saved Edel From Relegation
Edel FC narrowly escaped relegation to the Nationwide League One (NLO) at the end of the 2024/2025 season, thanks to the arrival of Coach Sylvanus ‘Quick Silver’ Okpala — a former Super Eagles forward turned defender — who took over the technical reins of the club mid-season following the departure of Coach Hamza Abara.
