Benjamin Okaro says Nnewi United of his dream has started staking shape as they compete in the current Nigeria National League season, Completesports.com reports.
Okaro, a former Enugu Rangers midfielder and ex-Nigeria international spoke to Completesports.com moments after the Anaedo Lions edged Ekiti United 3-1 in a NNL matchday-four fixture at Rojenny Stadium, Oba, near Onitsha.
It was Nnewi United’s third consecutive win, sending them comfortably to the top of their group, raising hopes of a possible elevation to the NPFL next term.
“I did say the other time that give me three weeks and you will see the quality of this team”, Okaro said.
“Now, three games, three wins, I’m absolutely delighted, I must say.
“But it is one game at a time, we’ve put this one behind, our next game is the trip to Dynamites in Benin.
“That will mark the end of the first round of the season. That’s where our focus lies for now.”
Okaro admits that Ekiti United proved a tough nut to crack to his boys in the match.
“I knew it was going to be a difficult game. We played in Abeokuta in the midweek and never rested because we came back a bit late,” he stated
“Ekiti United drew bye in the midweek games and it showed in the game.
“But I must commend my players for standing up strong.”
Okaro took his charges to the swimming pool of Beverly Hills Hotel Nnewi on Monday, Nnewi, as he continues to vary his training options ahead of the Benin showdown against Dynamites.
“We have a week to prepare, it starts on Monday with a session at the swimming pool.
“We are taking it one game at a time. Our objective is the Premier League. We are making progress as regards our philosophy and hopefully we will get there,” the USSF licensed gaffer said.
