NPFL 2021/22: ‘Rangers Will Fight To The Finish’ –Maikaba

Enugu Rangers Head Coach, Abdul Maikaba, says the Flying Antelopes will fight to the finish as the contest for positions in the 2021/22 NPFL gets to the concluding stage, Completesports.com reports.

Rangers survived a Dakkada scare, securing a marginal 1-0 win against the Uyo-based relegation-bound team in their match-day 29 game at the Awka City Stadium on Saturday. Christian Nnaji’s 65th minute goal salvaged it for the Maikaba’s team.

The Flying Antelopes, with the result, are currently third in the NPFL table, on 48 points from 29 matches – 10 points behind leaders Rivers United who will host Remo Stars today [Sunday], and six points behind second-placed Plateau United.

Speaking about Rangers’ hard-fought win against Dakkada in Awka, Maikada reiterates that it was a good game, though difficult.

“It was a good game, quite ok, though difficult looking at the position of our opponent,” Maikaba told Completesports.com at the Awka City Stadium after the match.

“We knew quite well that they would fight very well. They fought so well, but we really needed the three points. We gave our all to make sure we got the three points even if it’s with a half goal.”

On wether or not he is comfortable with his Rangers’ position in the table, Maikaba says that with nine more matches to end the 2021/22 NPFL season, it is not yet uhuru, that his team will fight to the finish.

“With remaining nine matches to go, how can I be comfortable. I can’t be comfortable. I have to continue to work and make sure l’m comfortable when l have achieved my objective at the end of the 38 weeks”.

As Enugu Rangers International strive to make further progress at the concluding stage of the season, Maikaba hopes to also secure a win against his former club, Plateau United, this weekend when the Jos Tin City side host the Flying Antelopes on match Day 30.

“We will prepare very well like in any other game. It is my former team, it is good l face my former team. We’ll go with a plan and make sure we get the three points at stake because getting that will help us a lot, not even to qualify for the continent alone, but for our own image”.
