As the matchday six of the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter between Abia Warriors and Kwara United draws near, Paul Samson is optimistic of victory for the home side.
The game promises to be an interesting one given the exchange of personnel between the two clubs in recent times.
The current head coach of Kwara United, Tunde Sani joined the Ilorin-based side from Abia Warriors, having served the Warriors in an assistant capacity.
He was later joined in Ilorin by defender Jimoh Gbadamosi and midfield enforcer, Ibrahim Dehinde.
Interestingly, the duo of Yakub Hammed and Paul Samson re-joined Abia Warriors from Kwara United, having left ‘Umu Chineke’ three seasons ago for the Ilorin-based side.

Despite this interesting development, the Cross River-born winger believes that the Pride of Abia will carry the day.
“Nothing special, still the same thing, but playing against your former club is what you have to look upon. It’s a normal game, so I just believe we will be victorious.
“It’s nothing special. We’ve played them before (at the Governor Douye Diri Pre-season Tournament in Yenagoa). I have joined them and I’ve left. So, I’ve come back to Abia Warriors, (it’s) same standard, same game, (and) same football, that is it,” he stated.
On his thoughts about Kwara United’s victory over Remo Stars being a concern for ‘Umu Chineke,’ Samson stated that Abia Warriors will defeat the visitors.
“It should be a concern, but that is football. Sometimes you play good and sometimes you play bad and the result comes (out) positive or negative. So, I think if Kwara United come here, I am very sure we will defeat them, because the winning mentality is there now. We don’t have any reason to lose any game here at Umuahia Township Stadium,” he concluded.
