The Invited Junior Athletes,IJA, took centre stage on the opening day of the 2024 National Sports Festival, reports Completesports.com.
Amarachi Chijioke and Scholastical Tekumbur won two gold, one silver and one bronze in the 45kg women’s weightlifting event.
Chijoke won two gold medals in clean and jerk with a lift of 82kg, while she totalled 146kg.
Tekumbur claimed bronze in clean and jerk with the best lift of 78kg.

Rivers State’s Christina Allorima, took silver with 81kg.
The IJA which is dubbed 38th state at the 38th team at the National Sports Festival comprises over 100 teenage athletes.
They are selected from over 100 athletes from across different parts of the country to compete against more established counterparts in nine sports.
The sports are; athletics, badminton, football, para athletics, swimming, table tennis, tennis, wrestling and weightlifting.
