Obodo: ‘I’m Very Happy To Rejoin Vastese; Eager To Start New Season’

One of the new players of Vastese – an Italian Serie D club (fourth division), is a midfileder, Kenneth Obodo – the younger brother of former Super Eagles midfielder, Christian Obodo.

Born in 1985, Obodo arrived in Biancorosso this Summer from Savona. And so far, the 35 year old has played seven games for a total of 559 minutes.

Vastese have gone through a difficult period – 13th place in the league, with a big 3-0 loss in their last game against Matese . The last time the club won a match was in the middle of October. Their next match is against Notaresco on 10 January – which will be crucial, only from a psychological view.

Completesports.com got Obodo talking about the situation of things in the Bolami club. Interview by By RAFFAELE CAMPO.

“Personally it is going well. It is my second time here because thirteen years ago I played for the old Pro Vasto,” Obodo said.

“In this city I’m very fine. The same city gave me very much, so I chose
to return with happiness. People from Vasto are exceptional.”

The league isn’t going so well, is there a specific reason?

Obodo: “The intention was to make a good season. With the coach, Silva, we started well, like last year before the forced stop in March. But then many players were infected by coronavirus, it wasn’t easy because we trained with few people.

“It is never easy in these conditions. And at the end, it’s always the coach who has to pay for all. I was always fine with Silva, he helped me very much, he is a good person. Hopefully, from this January we’ll started a new league.”

Two days ago the club unveiled new coach, D’Adderio. What are your impressions about him?

Obodo: “He is serious and professional, he wants all the players to be focused
on the trainings and in all they do. I’m sure that he will do well”.

How much big have you felt the absence of supporters at Aragona Stadium?

Obodo: “Gernerally so much. Football without fans isn’t good. We need the fans. And the fans need to come back to the stadium. I hope that during 2021, they can come back, they make the difference”.

As you told me earlier, it is your second time in Vasto. Have you experience any remarkable difference between the two periods?

Obodo: “They were different periods. The team played in C2, and one year they played also play-off for C1 league. At Aragona there were about 5.000 supporters which is a different situation from now. A place like Vasto deserves at least the Lega Pro, absolutely not the Serie D. The club is good, and the chairman Bolami is a great person. I think that they have to insist on this project”.

You’ve been in Italy for many years and have played for many teams. Which is your best memory?

“I arrived in Perugia when I was 16. Walter Sabatini – who then worked also for Roma and Inter – gave me this important chance. Then I moved on and played for some other teams, but every of these experiences left me with somenthing, in particular the year with Vibonese.”

How much did your brother Christian Obodo help you to make the journey so far?

Obodo: “He was in Perugia one year before me He always advisee me to work hard and to have the maximum respect for the other people around me. For me this aspect was and is still very important”.
