Nigeria’s Super Eagles have qualified for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations taking place in Morocco.
The Eagles’ qualification was confirmed after Libya defeated Rwanda 1-0 in Kigali on Thursday.
The Black Knights, still bottom on four points, must now rely on the Eagles to beat Benin Republic later on Thursday in Abidjan to keep their qualification hopes alive.
On their part, Rwanda who are on five points would also rely on the three-time AFCON winners to defeat Benin to stand a chance of making it to Morocco next year.
The Eagles are on 10 points and would only play their two remaining games hoping to finish top of the group.
The last time the Eagles faced Benin on matchday 1 ended 3-0 in Uyo with Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen getting the goals.
However, Benin defeated the Eagles 2-1 on matchday 4 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier in June.

That’s why evil deed will forever hurt anyway who did evil no matter how, Libya would have been in a position to qualify had it been they played the match against us, even if they deploy the same tactics of time wasting and go for a draw which is very possible considering they playing from home. Desist from evil because the end result is always unfavorable .
Let’s clear this up once and for all: Nigeria didn’t need any “help” from Libya to secure qualification. Going into that 1-1 draw against Benin, the Super Eagles only needed a single point to book their ticket to Morocco, and they got exactly that.
Before that match, Nigeria was already sitting comfortably at the top of the group with 10 points, well-positioned to qualify independently. The draw was all we required to seal the deal. While it’s true that a Libya win against Rwanda adds comfort, it certainly wasn’t a deciding factor for Nigeria’s qualification.
So, let’s give credit where it’s due: the Super Eagles had their fate in their own hands, and they delivered when it mattered.
