Asisat Oshoala has said the Super Falcons cannot afford not to qualify for the women’s World Cup especially after the Super Eagles missed out of the 2026 edition.
The Super Falcons suffered a shock 3-2 defeat to debutants Malawi in their WAFCON 2026 opening Group C fixture on Tuesday.
Temwa Chawinga bagged a brace while her sister Tabitha got a goal as The Scorchers claimed a historic win against the defending champions.
The defeat means the Super Falcons must win their remaining two matches against Zambia and Egypt to keep their World Cup qualification hopes alive.

The Zambians got their campaign off to a perfect start thanks to a dominating 5-0 win against Egypt.
Star forward Barbra Banda got four of the six goals for her side.
Speaking after the loss, Oshoala described it as a wake up call, while calling for support from Nigerians.
“This is a wake up call for the team, the Super eagles didn’t qualify for the World Cup, so we know what’s at stake, what we need right now is the support of all Nigerians.”
The Super Falcons have never missed any edition of the women’s World Cup since the maiden tournament in 1991 in China.
Their best outing at the tournament was a quarterfinal finish at the 1999 edition in the United States.
For the Super Eagles they have failed to qualify for back-to-back World Cups, failing to pick the tickets for the 2022 and 2026.
