Super Eagles midfielder John Ogu is set to pen a contract with Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor, Completesports.com reports.
Ogu will become a free agent next month after opting to not extend his contract with Isreali side, Hapoel Be’er Sheva.
According to a report in Turkish online news outlet, Fanatik.com.tr, the Nigeria international has agreed personal terms with Trabzonspor and will sign a contract with the club in the next couple of days.
The 31-year-old who joined Be’er Sheva in 2014 from Portuguese side, Academica scored 13 goals in 140 league appearances for the club.
He won three Isreali Premier League titles with Be’er Sheva and two Super Cup titles.
Ogu arrival will increase the number of Nigerians at Trabzonspor to three, with his former Hapoel Be’er Sheva teammate, Anthony Nwaekeme and Ogenyi Onazi already key members of the side.

One of the decent defensive midfielder I’ve ever watched play football.
No o. How can you say that? Reuben Gabriel was better. I would even play Azuibike Egwuekwe in defensive midfield compared to Ogu
@Adewuyi Olaosenikan Sometimes I think when you type on this forum you are doing so while smoking Indian Hem, otherwise how can you be talking such rubbish
you are crazy. is it your father that owns this forum. It you don’t like my writing just shut up and move to the next thread.
Nincompoop
@Adewuyi Olaosenikan Thunder Fire you dia anumanu… Thank god the coach is not a brainless fool like you otherwise Nigeria Super Eagles would have been finished, judging by your player preferences you clearly now nothing about football and cannot gauge quality from mediocre, you can’t tell the difference between high level caliber leagues from low level leagues, hence I say you are clearly on drugs or just brain dead. ..
Nonsense move! Nigerian players will never seize to amaze me. They will see la Lisa, Bundesliga chasing them but instead they will prefer to go to a mediocre league. German, Spanish and Turkish clubs are chasing this guy. Why did he choose to go to Turkey??
CSN edit button please! I mean *La Liga*
chairmanfemi it has not been announced officially that ogu has signed for trabzonspor, it is just mare rumours, wait until it is confirmed before attacking the dude
Its confirmed..one of Ogu’s close journalist friend,Johny Edwards works with complete sports and i am sure he would have confirmed from John before publishing..@chairmanfemi were u expecting Ogu to sign in EPL or la liga before lol
Not a good club. Nigeria made club. Now everyone want to go turkey. Spain England?
Gentlemen … I understand we all wanted our very best players to be plying their skills in top clubs and top competitive leagues abroad.
But we have to reconsider lots of factors as well.
Any sane non-EU player will dream and want to play in the top clubs of the EPLs, La Ligas, Bundeliga, Seria As etc
But it is not about signing for a club and then be placed on the bench or loaned to another unwanted club due to EU quota system, Passport/permit or local breed privileges etc
Ogu can make a team list in Arsenal, Tottenham or Chelsea, Valencia, Villarreal …or Dortmund or Frankfurt, or Napoli or Inter…..but the question is….will he be opportune to play based in the fact that he is a non-EU local breed ???
The first thing that strikes a player of non-EU origin when choosing a club in the transfers is a club where he will get playing time in the league and a possible showcase in the Ellite continental competitions (UEFA champions league or Europa)
I will advise to player to go to Porto, Anderlecht, Austria Vienna, galatasaray etc where he will be granteed first team football rather than go to Man City, Mardrid or Bayern.
I know that there are some non-EU african players that have hit it big with Ellite clubs in the past; Etoo, Drogba, Kanu, Essien etc and even now; Salah, Mane, aubameyang….but go and do a check on how they had to journey around clubs before they made it to that club!
It didn’t come on a bed of roses like the local bred players !
How old was Raul, Owen, Gortze when they break into their respective big clubs….but think about awoniyi and Nwakali ….for instance ….. Why are they not in Liverpool & Arsenal first team ?
Omeru is stil in the books of Chelsea … A super eagles international that has played against the likes of Drodga, Messi and other deadly strikers … And yet has not even starred in a single match for the blues…four seasons …and still counting !!!
I will support Ogu’s move to Turkey or Belgium or France …ojare !!!
My people … I hail ooo
Drogba not on that list
Oga Prince, your analysis showed you observed the EU system very well before drawing your conclusions but the truth of the matter is that OGU will not get into any of those teams you just mentioned. A player that can’t get into a super eagles team on a day everyone is fit and available.
