Nigeria midfielder Ogenyi Onazi has revealed he is close to a return to action following a lengthy spell on the sidelines as a result of cruciate ligament injury, reports Completesports.com.
Onazi picked up the injury in Trabzonspor’s 4-1 home win against Rizespor in December 2018.
He recently returned to full training and is currently working his way to full fitness.
“When I see my people happy I am motivated. I see all your messages I am working hard to come back stronger to achieve our goal for the season. Almost ready,” he wrote on his official Instagram page.
The 26-year-old missed out on a place in Nigeria’s squad to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Cup in Egypt as a result of the setback.
A return to competitive action could see him get international recognition once again.

It’s interesting to know which of this two the coach will pick to start games between Mikel and Onazi at Trabzonspor.
Apparently,both plays in same position,from what i seen in one of their continental games,Mikel played as the defensive midfielder for the team who plays a pattern of a sole defensive midfielder.So if this system is adopted subsequently,then it’s either Onazi or Mikel.Whereas the latter has moved on from the super eagles,the former is very much available for selection.
Feelers would prefer Onazi to get games ahead of Mikel because of the obvious.Myself i find myself in that group because Onazi is still a super eagles but Mikel is a mere supporter like any one of us in the forum haha..! so we need Onazi to come back stronger for us.But if the coach can accommodate both in the first team i shall be glad too .Mikel is a legend for the super eagles and he got my unwavering support and respect.
A fit Ogenyi is a lot better than Esiti and would be nice to have an improved options going forward.
