Onuachu Bags 14th League Goal As Genk Beat Club Brugge To Go 10 Points Clear

Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu took his goal tally in this season’s Belgian Jupiler to 14, after scoring in Genk’s 3-1 home win against Club Brugge on Sunday, Completesports.com reports.

The win means Genk are 10 points clear of second-placed Union St. Gilloise in the league table after 19 games.

Onuachu maintains leadership in the top scorers chart following his latest strike in Sunday’s fixture.

Prior to the game against Club Brugge, Onuachu had failed to score in Genk’s last two games.

Club Brugge Nigerian midfielder Raphael Onyedika was not in action while Yira Sor made his debut for Genk, coming on in the 88th minute.

Hans Vanaken gave Club Brugge the lead in the 21st minute but Carlos Cuesta equalised for Genk on 25 minutes.

Onuachu then put the home side 2-1 ahead in the 67th minute off an assist from Ghana’s Joseph Paintsil.

With 15 minutes left Club Brugge were reduced to 10 men after Abakar Sylla was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Genk capitalised in the man advantage and went 3-1 up through Bryan Heynen with nine minutes to play.

In terms of strikers I think Nigeria is far ahead of Other nations of World. Any coach who knows what he wants and how to get it can select any of the strikers to fit his stratagem and they will diliver. Our ahead as SE fans remains the goal keeping department. We are also lightweigted in Defence but If Adarabioyo has accepted to play for us as the news is making the rounds then we are cover also in defence. In midfield I’m a big confuse.. seems Iwobi is the only tested and trusted . Ndidi I don’t know what is happening to him . It time the NFF focus seriously on these two areas(goal keeping ,Midfiied) working with the coach and see how we can improve before nations. We should be aimng to win it.

If Adarabioyo accepted to play you are covered” you guys have started with your silly things again. Adarabioyo is a beautiful bride now that he has not play for Nigeria and one bad game from him they will start saying series of things forgetting that this guys are human being too. This was the same way you guys were shouting Calvin Basset up and down then. Don’t know what makw you to belief that Adarabioyo is going to be an instant hit? You people need to calm down and stop criticising this players

    • Adarabioyo is a world class center defender who has all the qualities needed to Marshall SE’s defense…..I see him captaining Nigeria in the future also…..If he has a bad day at the office and a few over zealous fans make a meal out of it does not change who he is……I can’t wait to see Adarabioyo playing for Nigeria…..I have been praying for it a long time now……Very strong on the ball,Strong in the air,Good with his feet,Calm in possession,And reads the game well……If Caleb Okoli of Atalanta in Serie A can follow suit then our defense is settled…..so excited!

    • AKP,
With all due respect, I will be cautious before calling labelling any player ‘world class’. Trust me, if he were that world class, he would not be dipping in and out of the English Premier League and the Championship in recent seasons. Additionally, at the age of 25,I think he would at least have been in the periphery of the England national team like Fikayo Tomori.

I have seen strikers slice through Adarabioyo in league football. Additionally, no one knows how he will acclimatise to the rigours and demands of African football if indeed he switches allegiance.

I think he is a decent centre defender with a prospect of doing good things with Nigeria. But I remember praising Semi Ajayi to the roof top when he was switching allegiance to Nigeria only for him to turn out to be cut from similar cloth with Ekong, Balogun, Omeruo and Awaziem: the fabric of error prone defenders.

If Adarabioyo switches allegiance to Nigeria, he is welcome. Let’s see him perform across several games for the Super Eagles before concluding whether or not he is a world class ‘International’ Centre Defender.

Adarabioyo is good. Uses both feet, distributes the ball well, good in the air, tackles fairly well.
However, he does have some weaknesses, namely his pace and physicality. When he comes up against physically strong, fast forwards, the situation can get scary. It would be a nightmare scenario for him to be in a foot race with a striker!
I also hesitate to call him “world class”. He certainly has potential. But he needs to show it on the pitch in an international match for me to draw that conclusion. We’ve seen enough examples of players considered to be “world class” based on their club performances, only to fizzle out in the heat of international duty.
And with the NFF’s continual failure to provide quality pitches for the SE to play on, how will Adarabioyo fare on a substandard pitch?
It seems Noni Madueke is also open to joining the SE, going by recent reports. Tends to overdribble a bit too much for my liking, but still a very decent player. His directness and purposeful play will add value to the SE attack if he joins the fold. But then again, his ability to perform may be limited if he has to play on a millet farm pitch.
